Explaining the virtue of fasting the six days of Shawwal and the authenticity of the hadith regarding it

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q495: The questioner says: I read a hadith that whoever fasts Ramadan and then follows it with six days of Shawwal, it is said that this hadith contains weakness. What is the ruling on that?
A495: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who observed the fast of Ramadan and then followed it with six (fasts) of Shawwal. it would be as if he fasted perpetually.من صام رمضان ثم أتبعه ستًا من شوال، كان كصيام الدهر
Sahih Muslim 1164a
This hadith is in Sahih Muslim, and their statement regarding it is not accepted. So the hadith is authentic, and fasting the six days of Shawwal is strongly emphasized. It is voluntary fasting, and fasting the six days of Shawwal completes for Allah the fasting of Ramadan as fasting for the entire year. So fasting Ramadan is equivalent to ten months, because a good deed is rewarded ten times over, and fasting six days of Shawwal is equivalent to two months. So two months and ten months make twelve months, which are the months of the year. So whoever fasts Ramadan and follows it with six days of Shawwal is as if he fasted the entire year, meaning the whole year, because a good deed is rewarded ten times over. So Ramadan is equivalent to ten months, and six days of Shawwal are equivalent to two months.
