The Shaykh : Sometimes one is not memorizing something in Surat al-Dhariyat: [Adh-Dhariyat 51:46] But we might say: His statement, indicates what came before, like this here.
The student: ... .
The Shaykh :[Al-Hadid 57:26] And before, Noah was not from their descendants.
So from the Qur'an, there are three pieces of evidence indicating what? That Noah was the first of the messengers. And from the Sunnah, what is established in the hadith of intercession: And this is explicit.
As for Adam (peace be upon him), he is a prophet and not a messenger. Regarding Idris, many historians, or most historians, and some exegetes as well, have held that he was before Noah and that he was among his ancestors. But this is a very weak opinion, and the Qur'an and the Sunnah refute it. Rather, the correct view is what we have mentioned.
The last of them is Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), by His saying, the Exalted:[Al-Ahzab 33:40] And He did not say, "And the seal of the messengers." Why? Because if he sealed the prophethood, he sealed the messengership a fortiori. And thus we know the error of some people who say, "Muhammad is the seal of the messengers." We say it is better to say, "The seal of the prophets." Although it may be correct to say "the seal of the messengers" in the sense that he is the seal of all of them. In any case, the seal of the prophets and the messengers is Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
If you say: Jesus (peace be upon him) will descend in the last of times, and he is a messenger, so what is the answer?
We say: Yes, he will not descend with a new law, but rather he will judge by the law of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Now, if someone says: It is agreed upon that the best of this community after its Prophet is Abu Bakr, and you are saying now that Jesus will judge by the message of the Prophet (peace be upon him) or by the law of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so he would be among his followers. How is it correct for us to say: The best of this community after its Prophet is Abu Bakr?
The student: The excellence is among those who are not messengers.
The Shaykh : And you, Abd al-Rahman? We say this is among those who are not messengers, because it is well known that a messenger is different from a Companion, without a doubt.
And [We destroyed] the people of Noah before; indeed, they were a people defiantly disobedient.
وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ مِنْ قَبْلُ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَوْماً فَاسِقِينَBefore them

The Shaykh :
And We have already sent Noah and Abraham and placed in their descendants prophethood and scripture
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحاً وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ وَجَعَلْنَا فِي ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا النُّبُوَّةَ وَالْكِتَابَIn their descendants
فِي ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَاSo from the Qur'an, there are three pieces of evidence indicating what? That Noah was the first of the messengers. And from the Sunnah, what is established in the hadith of intercession:
That the people of the standing place will say to Noah: You are the first messenger Allah sent to the people of the earth
أن أهل الموقف يقولون لنوح : أنت أول رسول أرسله الله إلى أهل الأرضAs for Adam (peace be upon him), he is a prophet and not a messenger. The last of them is Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), by His saying, the Exalted:
but [he is] the Messenger of Allah and last of the prophets
وَلَكِنْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَخَاتَمَ النَّبِيِّينَIf you say: Jesus (peace be upon him) will descend in the last of times, and he is a messenger, so what is the answer?
