Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : He said: "And we believe that the first of them is Nuh and the last of them is Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and upon them all)".
The first of them is Nuh. The evidence is from the Qur'an and the Sunnah. The evidence from the Qur'an is the saying of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He):
Indeed, We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], as We revealed to Noah and the prophets after him
[An-Nisa 4:163]
until He said:
messengers bringing good news رسلا مبشرين
, and this is the revelation of the message. As for the revelation of prophethood, it existed before Nuh. What was it? It was in Adam, yes. But the revelation of the message, which Allah confirmed by His saying:
messengers bringing good news رسلا مبشرين
, this began with Nuh (peace be upon him).
And among the proofs is His saying (Glorified and Exalted is He):
And We have already sent Noah and Abraham and placed in their descendants prophethood and scripture
[Al-Hadid 57:26]
, where Allah mentioned that He sent Nuh and Ibrahim and that prophethood and the Book were in their descendants. This indicates that there was no messenger before them, meaning before Nuh. By this, we know that what some historians said, that Idris was the grandfather of Nuh, is a false statement. This statement is false because it implies that there was a messenger before Nuh, which contradicts the Qur'an.
As for the Sunnah, the evidence that Nuh was the first of the messengers is that in the hadith of intercession, agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim,
that they come to Nuh and remind him of the favor of Allah, among which is that he is the first messenger Allah sent to the people of the earth
This is explicit that the first of the messengers is Nuh.
As for the last of them, it is Muhammad (peace be upon him). The evidence for this is His saying (Glorified and Exalted is He):
Muhammad is not the father of [any] one of your men, but [he is] the Messenger of Allah and last of the prophets
[Al-Ahzab 33:40]
This verse combines the message and prophethood. He said:
the Messenger of Allah and last of the prophets
[Al-Ahzab 33:40]
and the Seal of the Prophets وخاتم النبيين
because there will be no prophet after him, nor? nor a messenger. Even one who claims prophethood without the message is a liar and a disbeliever as well, for he has denied the Qur'an and the Sunnah.
but [he is] the Messenger of Allah and last of the prophets
[Al-Ahzab 33:40]
And because He is the seal of the prophets, His Shari'ah is suitable for all times and places. Suitable for all times and places. Does this mean that it changes with the change of time? Or does it mean that whoever holds fast to it finds his time right in every season? The latter, without a doubt. For this reason, some people may assume that the meaning of "suitable for all times and places" is that it adapts to the adaptation of people. And if people have a lot of work that distracts them from prayer, we tell them either not to pray Zuhr and 'Asr because it is work time, or to combine them with what? Maghrib and 'Isha', as some workers do now. I have been informed that some workers combine all five prayers when they sleep. Yes? I do not know if they combine Fajr with them by advancing it or delaying it, Allah knows best. But the four prayers, certainly, they tell me that some workers combine them. If we said that the religion adapts here? That would be correct, but it is wrong. The meaning of the statement of the one who said that it is suitable for all times and places is that it does not conflict with reform or righteousness in any time. Hold fast to the religion, and your affairs of religion and worldly life will be right.
but [he is] the Messenger of Allah and last of the prophets
[Al-Ahzab 33:40]
