The Fruits of Believing That Allah, Glorified and Exalted, Is "Not Like Anything"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : What does a person's belief in this produce for the servant? If you believe that Allah is not like anything, and that He is the All-Hearing and the All-Seeing, it is not required of you to merely know this. No, belief must necessarily produce what this description entails. If you believe that Allah is not like anything, you will magnify Him to the utmost degree of magnification, because no one among the created beings is like Him. So you magnify this Great Lord whom no one resembles. Otherwise, there would be no benefit in your belief that He is
There is nothing like unto Him
[Ash-Shuraa 42:11]
. If you believe that He is All-Hearing, you will be cautious about every word—what?—that angers Allah, or not? Because you fear that He will hear you. You know that He hears you, because you know that He hears you, so you fear His punishment. Thus, any word that contains disobedience to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, you will avoid because you believe that He is All-Hearing. If this belief does not produce this result in you, know that your belief that Allah is All-Hearing is deficient, without a doubt. And by Allah, I do not know about ourselves: do we find this fruit, or does one simply let the tongue run wild and that is it?
Are the people tossed into the Fire upon their faces, or upon their noses, except because of what their tongues have wrought
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2616Hasan (Darussalam)
If you believe that Allah is All-Hearing, you will not speak except with what pleases Him, especially if you are speaking on behalf of His Shari'ah, as a mufti or a teacher. Then it is more severe and more severe, because Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, says:
Then who is more unjust than one who invents a lie about Allah to mislead the people by [something] other than knowledge?
[Al-An'am 6:144]
. So this is among the most unjust of injustice. Therefore He said:
Indeed, Allah guides not the wrongdoing people.
[Al-Ma'idah 5:51]
. And this is among the punishments for one who issues fatwas without knowledge: that he is not guided, because he is an oppressor.
Indeed, Allah guides not the wrongdoing people.
[Al-Ma'idah 5:51]
So beware, my Muslim brother, of saying a word that does not please Allah, whether you say it about Allah or in any other manner.
As for the All-Seeing, what is the fruit of believing in this? Do not do anything that angers Allah, because you know that if you cast a forbidden glance, even if people do not understand that it is a forbidden glance, Allah, the Exalted, sees this glance and knows what is in your heart. Look,
He knows that which deceives the eyes and what the breasts conceal.
[Ghafir 40:19]
. If you believe in this, we ask Allah to make belief in Him a reality for me and for you. If we believe in this, it is not possible that we would do an action that He absolutely does not approve of. Be shy of Allah as you are shy of the closest person to you and the one you magnify the most. Do not say, "By Allah, Allah is in the sky and I am always..." So, if we believe that Allah is All-Seeing, we will avoid every action that is a cause for the anger of Allah. Otherwise, our belief in this is deficient. Yes, if someone pointed with his finger, or his lip, or his eye, or his head at a forbidden matter, the people around him do not know about it. Does Allah, the Exalted, see it? He sees it. So let him be cautious. If we believed in what the names and attributes of Allah, the Exalted, entail, you would find complete uprightness in us, but heedlessness is abundant.
