The Fruits of Faith in the Name of Allah, "The All-Knowing," and the Attribute of Knowledge
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : What does faith in the knowledge of Allah benefit in terms of conduct? It implies that if a person knows that Allah is All-Knowing of everything, it obligates him to fear Allah in his heart, because no one knows what is in the hearts of people. Do you know what is in the hearts of people? No, but Allah knows. So if you believe that Allah knows everything, you will never harbor in your heart anything that angers Allah, because you believe that Allah is All-Knowing and Aware, and you fear Allah. Likewise, you will not intend harm to anyone if you know that Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, knows, because even if you hide your intention of harm from the one you intend to harm, Allah knows it and will hold you accountable for it. So is faith in knowledge a cause of the rectification of the inner self or the outer? The inner self, because knowledge extends even to hidden matters. If you believe in this, your heart will be rectified. Be assured that if the heart is rectified, the limbs are rectified, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih al-Bukhari 52 Therefore, we should care for the rectification of the hearts before the rectification of the limbs. The rectification of the hearts is what is important. How many people have rectified limbs but their hearts are corrupt? We ask Allah to rectify our hearts and yours. If the heart is rectified, the limbs are rectified, and it must be so, because the heart is the governor of the body. If it is rectified, the body is rectified, and if the hearts become corrupt, the bodies become corrupt. This is why, when the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed that he said: Who says this, my brothers? The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) says it. What about us? He says: or our hearts to Your obedience. This is the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so what about us? Our hearts are inclined, going astray, perishing, having desires that contradict the Shari'ah, and yet it seems as if our hearts are in the purest state. In fact, you are amazed to see a person in open sin and you say, "My brother, fear Allah, fear Allah," and he says to you, "Piety is here," pointing to his chest. Who said piety is here? The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said piety is here. So this man, you see him in disobedience, you say, "My brother, fear Allah, be afraid of Allah," and he says to you, "Piety is here." Well, we say to him simply: if he feared what is here, he would fear what is there. That means if the heart feared, the limbs would fear, because the one who said piety is here is the one who said: Sahih al-Bukhari 52 Therefore, I ask Allah to help me and you in the rectification of the hearts. A person should always be with his heart, washing it, cleaning it constantly, looking at its deviations. Does he want the worldly life? Does he want the Hereafter? Does he harbor hatred for any of the Muslims? Does he harbor enmity toward the Muslims? Does he harbor loyalty toward the disbelievers? And so on, of the dangerous, dangerous, dangerous deeds of the heart. The most dangerous thing for a person is the deed of the heart.
