Explaining the Signs of Allah in Sacred Law.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The second category of the signs of the Shari'ah: these are what the messengers brought from revelation. What is an example? The great Qur'an. Is the Qur'an a sign?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : The evidence, yes, the evidence that the Qur'an is a sign among the signs of Allah? Is there a proof with this wording that the Qur'an is a sign?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Hmm, the question is for a specific person.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh :
a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion
[Al-Baqarah 2:185]
.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Yes,
These are the verses of Allah which We recite to you, [O Muhammad], in truth. And indeed, you are from among the messengers.
[Al-Baqarah 2:252]
(50) But they say, "Why are not signs sent down to him from his Lord?" Say, "The signs are only with Allah, and I am only a clear warner." (51) And is it not sufficient for them that We revealed to you the Book which is recited to them? Indeed in that is a mercy and reminder for a people who believe.
[Al-'Ankabut 29:50-51]
So He made them signs. So the signs of the Shari'ah, what are they? They are what the messengers brought from revelation. These are the signs of the Shari'ah. And how does deviation occur in them?
Deviation in them occurs either by denying them, distorting them, or opposing them, meaning disobeying them. All of this is deviation.
Denying them: by saying what? That they are not from Allah, so he denies them entirely. Denying them is also another type of denial: he denies the news that came in them. He says the story of the People of the Cave is not true, the story of the People of the Elephant is not true, Allah did not send birds upon them in flocks, and what else did He do to them? He struck them with smallpox. Look at how some people distort, may Allah protect us, openly saying there were no birds in flocks throwing stones of baked clay, but this is about smallpox microbes. They were struck with smallpox in Mecca and went to their lands and perished. I say this is distortion. In reality, this is denial. The wording does not support it at all, but nevertheless, it was said. I heard someone on the radio this morning. I brought it up because he is close to me. He interprets this verse by saying: Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, sent upon them a disease and a calamity, and they perished. They returned to their lands and perished.
Allah the Exalted said, I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan,
(1) Have you not considered, [O Muhammad], how your Lord dealt with the companions of the elephant? (2) Did He not make their plan into misguidance? (3) And He sent against them birds in flocks, (4) Striking them with stones of hard clay, (5) And He made them like eaten straw.
[Al-Fil 105:1-5]
Truthful is Allah the Great. That is what he said. So I said to myself, Truthful is Allah the Great, but he lied, because he says they were not birds in flocks, and there were no stones of baked clay. I do not know how their minds go to this clear distortion, because their minds rejected that birds would be sent carrying stones of this hard baked clay that strike a person until he becomes like eaten chaff, like a crop when camels eat it. Glory be to Allah the Great.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : It is difficult, well, in any case, I say this is distortion or not? Or is it denial?
Well, denial is to deny the original revelation, just as they denied, just as Quraysh denied the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "A sorcerer, a liar." Or to deny the news in it, such as denying the story of the People of the Elephant or the story of the People of the Cave or the like. Yes, or to deny that Maryam was a virgin. Yes, there are now books, unfortunately, one person told me that they were distributed in the north of the Kingdom as small booklets for children. Be careful of them. May Allah reward you with good. It is written in them that Maryam was married to Yusuf the carpenter and that she gave birth. What is this? This is the saying of the Christians and the Jews. If they say she was a prostitute, that is also their saying. If it was through marriage, it is the saying of the Christians. Yes, this, may Allah protect us, is disbelief. This is disbelief because it is denial, because she said:
while no man has touched me and I have not been unchaste?" وَلَمْ يَمْسَسْنِي بَشَرٌ وَلَمْ أَكُ بَغِيًّا
[Maryam 19:20]
No human touched me lawfully, and I was not a prostitute through fornication. And these people say this. These are disbelievers, may Allah protect us. And this is what our enemies want from us: to deny the Qur'an and believe in such things. And yet, they have decorated, embellished booklets. If a child sees them, he is pleased with them and does not pass them by. What do you think if this belief is planted in the minds of children? It will never leave them. Yes.
Well, I say: this is considered under the category of distortion because it is denial.
The second: what did we say about it? Distortion. Distorting the texts is deviation, meaning diverting them from what Allah and His Messenger intended. This is a deviator because he turned away from what is required in them.
The third: opposing them by leaving off the commands or committing the prohibitions. If this is the case, it is deviation. Allah the Exalted said regarding the Sacred Mosque:
and [also] whoever intends [a deed] therein of deviation [in religion] or wrongdoing - We will make him taste of a painful punishment.
[Al-Hajj 22:25]
So all sins are deviation because they are a departure from the signs from what is required for them, since it is obligatory upon us to obey the commands and avoid the prohibitions. If we do not do that, this is deviation.
Well, so deviation in the signs is divided according to the division of the signs. And the signs, we said, are either cosmic or of the Shari'ah. The cosmic ones are the created things, and the Shari'ah ones are the revelation sent down to the prophets. Deviation in the cosmic signs occurs in three ways. What are they? Attributing them to other than Allah, believing in a partner for Allah, and believing in a helper for Allah.
And the signs of the Shari'ah: which are the revelation sent down to the prophets, deviation in them occurs through denial, distortion, and opposition. The people of the Sunnah and the community disavow that. They do not deviate in the names of Allah or in His signs, but they fulfill what is obligatory upon them in that.
