Explanation of the author's statement: And his saying: (In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy) - (Our Lord, Your mercy and knowledge encompass all things)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Now, let us move on to the attribute of mercy. The author says:
In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy
This is a verse that the author brought to establish a ruling. Is it an introduction to what follows, or is it an independent verse? It is an independent verse used as evidence to establish the mercy of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). We have already explained this verse repeatedly, so there is no need to repeat it.
He says:
Our Lord, You have encompassed all things in mercy and knowledge
[Ghafir 40:7]
This is said by the angels.
Those [angels] who carry the Throne and those around it exalt [Allah] with praise of their Lord and believe in Him and ask forgiveness for those who have believed, [saying], "Our Lord, You have encompassed all things in mercy and knowledge, so forgive those who have repented and followed Your way and protect them from the punishment of Hellfire.
[Ghafir 40:7]
Allah is the Greatest. How great is the faith! The angels around the Throne carry the Throne and call upon Allah for you. The angels call upon Allah for you, saying this:
Our Lord, You have encompassed all things in mercy and knowledge, so forgive those who have repented and followed Your way and protect them from the punishment of Hellfire. (8) Our Lord, and admit them to gardens of perpetual residence which You have promised them and whoever was righteous among their fathers, their spouses and their offspring. Indeed, it is You who is the Exalted in Might, the Wise. (9) And protect them from the evil consequences [of their deeds]. And he whom You protect from evil consequences that Day - You will have given him mercy. And that is the great attainment."
[Ghafir 40:7-9]
The angels are calling for you.
He said:
Our Lord, You have encompassed all things in mercy
[Ghafir 40:7]
So everything that Allah's knowledge reaches, and His knowledge reaches everything, then His mercy has reached you, because Allah paired them together in this ruling.
Our Lord, You have encompassed all things in mercy and knowledge
[Ghafir 40:7]
And this is the general mercy that encompasses all creation, even the disbelievers? Yes, because we said that this mercy is with knowledge. So whatever Allah's knowledge reaches, and Allah's knowledge reaches everything, His mercy has reached it. Just as He knows the disbeliever, He also shows mercy to the disbeliever. But His mercy for the disbeliever is only physical, bodily, worldly, and extremely limited compared to the mercy for the believer. The One who provides for the disbeliever is the same Allah who provides for him with food, drink, clothing, shelter, spouses, and so on. This is mercy. As for the believers, their mercy is more specific and greater than this, because it is a mercy of faith and of the heart. For this reason, you find the believer in a better state than the disbeliever, even in worldly matters, because Allah says:
Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer
[An-Nahl 16:97]
What is it?
We will surely give him a good life
A good life. This good life is absent for the disbelievers. Their life is like the life of animals: if they are full, they defecate; if they are not full, their bellies bloat and they wail. The disbelievers are like that: if they are full, they become arrogant; otherwise, they wail and do not benefit from their worldly life. But the believer, if hardship strikes him, he is patient and seeks reward from Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And if ease strikes him, he is grateful. So he is in good standing in both, and his heart is open and at peace, walking in accordance with divine decree and destiny. He does not despair in calamity, nor become arrogant in blessing. Rather, he is balanced, upright, and moderate. This is the difference between this mercy and that mercy, even in this world. But, unfortunately, my brothers, there are people among us who now want to join the ranks of the disbelievers in this world. They want to follow them to the point that they have made the world their only concern. If they are given, they are pleased; if they are not given, they become angry. These people, no matter how much worldly luxury they reach, are in a hellfire. They have never tasted the pleasure of the world. Only the one who believes in Allah and does good deeds has tasted it. For this reason, some of the Salaf said: "By Allah, if the kings and the sons of kings knew what we are in, they would fight us for it with swords." They would give it to us, killing us with swords, taking it from us, because what prevents them from this bliss is their sinfulness, disobedience, and inclination to the world, which is their greatest concern and the limit of their knowledge. It is a trial.
Now, "the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy." He said:
Our Lord, You have encompassed all things in mercy and knowledge
[Ghafir 40:7]
What is the grammatical analysis of
mercy رَحْمَةً
? It is a specification (tamyiz) converted from the subject. And so is
knowledge وَعِلْماً
, because the original form is "Our Lord, Your mercy and Your knowledge encompassed everything." So it is converted from the subject. Good.
