Explanation of the author's statement and his saying: (And when We replace a verse with another, and Allah knows best what He sends down, they say, "You are only inventing lies. But most of them do not know") - (Say,

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And He, Mighty and Majestic, said:
And when We substitute a verse in place of
[An-Nahl 16:101]
We replace
meaning We made a verse in place of a verse, and this is a reference to abrogation
We do not abrogate a verse or cause it to be forgotten except that We bring forth [one] better than it or similar to it
[Al-Baqarah 2:106]
If Allah abrogates a verse and makes another verse in its place, whether He abrogates it in wording or abrogates it
The student: in ruling

The Shaykh : in ruling, he said:
and Allah is most knowing of what He sends down
[An-Nahl 16:101]
This parenthetical phrase is among the most beautiful things in this position, meaning that our replacing a verse with another is not foolishness or idle play, but rather it proceeds from knowledge of what is best for creation, so we replace a verse with another because of our knowledge that that is what?
The student: better

The Shaykh : better for creation and more beneficial for them, and for this reason he said:
and Allah is most knowing of what He sends down
[An-Nahl 16:101]
In it is also another benefit, that this replacement is not from the work of the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, yes, but rather it is from Allah, who sent it down with His knowledge and replaced a verse with another with His knowledge, not from you, O Messenger.
And when Our verses are recited to them as clear evidences, those who do not expect the meeting with Us say, "Bring us a Qur'an other than this or change it."
[Yunus 10:15]
What is the answer?
The student: Say, "It is not for me to replace it

The Shaykh : Did he answer part of their speech and leave part?
It is not for me to change it on my own accord
[Yunus 10:15]
And he did not say, "Nor will I bring a Qur'an other than it." Why? Because he may bring a verse in place of a verse, but replacement from me is not possible, yes.
Say, "It is not for me to replace it on my own accord. I follow only what is revealed to me. And I am only a clear warner. Indeed, I fear, if I disobey my Lord, the punishment of a great Day."
Well, the important point is that the One who replaces a verse with another, whether its wording or its ruling, is Allah.
they say, "You, [O Muhammad], are but an inventor [of lies]."
[An-Nahl 16:101]
You are only إنما أنت
To whom is the address?
The student: To Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him

The Shaykh : To Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him.
a fabricator مفتر
Meaning a liar, a liar, meaning you bring us a verse today and you bring us a verse tomorrow, this is lying, this indicates that you are lying, yesterday you tell us this and today you tell us this, this is lying.
You, [O Muhammad], are but an inventor [of lies].
[An-Nahl 16:101]
But this statement they make in response to his bringing a verse in place of a verse is a statement of foolishness, and if they had looked deeply, they would have known with certainty that the One who brings a verse in place of a verse, that indicates his truthfulness, because a liar fears with the utmost fear to bring speech that contradicts his first speech, fearing that he will be exposed for
The student: his lie

The Shaykh : for his lie, so if he were a liar as they claim, and this is a sign of lying, he would not bring something that contradicts the first, because if he brought something that contradicts the first, in their opinion, it would reveal
The student: his lie

The Shaykh : it would reveal his lie, rather, his bringing what contradicts the first is evidence of
The student: his truthfulness

The Shaykh : What is it for him? For his truthfulness, without a doubt. And for this reason he said here:
But most of them do not know.
[An-Nahl 16:75]
Is this a refutation and negation, or a transition?
The student: Refutation

The Shaykh : Yes.
But most of them do not know.
[An-Nahl 16:75]
Meaning, rather, I am not a fabricator, but most of them do not know. And if they had been among those with knowledge, they would have known that if a verse is replaced with another, then that is evidence of what?
The student: truthfulness

The Shaykh : Yes, of the truthfulness of the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him. Do you not know, O group, that replacing a verse with another is evidence of truthfulness and not of lying?
The student: truthfulness

The Shaykh : Of truthfulness, because a liar fears with the utmost fear to bring what contradicts his first speech. Is that clear? Allah the Exalted said:
Say, [O Muhammad], "The Pure Spirit has brought it down from your Lord in truth قل نزله روح القدس من ربك بالحق
[An-Nahl 16:102]
Allah is the Greatest.
The Pure Spirit has brought it down
[An-Nahl 16:102]
From whom?
The student: From Allah.

The Shaykh : From Allah, from your Lord, and the Holy Spirit is Jibril, and He described him with that because of his purity from betrayal, peace and blessings be upon him. And for this reason, in another verse He said:
(19) [That] indeed, the Qur'an is a word [conveyed by] a noble messenger (20) [Who is] possessed of power and with the Owner of the Throne, secure [in position], (21) Obeyed there [in the heavens] and trustworthy.
[At-Takwir 81:19-21]
Here He said:
the Holy Spirit روح القدس
meaning purity from betrayal. Yes, He says:
From your Lord
And He did not say
from the Lord of the worlds." من رب العالمين
[Al-A'raf 7:61]
as a reference to the specific lordship, the lordship of Allah for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, the most specific of the specific lordships, or not?
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : Well, for what reason did He say:
with the truth بالحق
in truth? Either it is a description of the one who sent it down or of what was sent down. Do you know the difference? Either it is a description of the one who sent it down or of what was sent down. For the one who sent it down, it means that its sending down is truth and not a lie. For what was sent down, it means that what he brought is
The student: Truth.

The Shaykh : truth. Which of the two meanings?
The student: Both.

The Shaykh : Both. It is truth from Allah, and it was sent down in truth. Allah the Exalted said:
And We revealed it with the truth
Yes.
And with the truth it was sent down وبالحق نزل
with the truth بالحق
With what?
to make firm those who believe
[An-Nahl 16:102]
O Allah, make us among them.
The student: Amen.

The Shaykh : This is an explanation and a great fruit: it makes firm those who believe in it, it enables them to the truth and strengthens them upon it.
And guidance and good news for the Muslims
Good news, how? Because it contains good news for the believers. Good news, because whoever acts upon it and submits to it, that is evidence that he is among the people of goodness. Allah the Exalted said:
So as for he who gives and fears Allah and believes in the good, We will make easy for him the easy
And for this reason, a person should be glad when he sees goodness in himself and steadfastness upon it and turning toward it. He should be glad, because this is good news for him. When the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, informed his companions, he said:
There is none of you but has his place written for him in Paradise or in the Hell- Fire.
Sahih al-Bukhari 4945
What did the Companions say? They said: "Shall we then abandon our deeds and rely [on fate]?" He said: "No, work, for everyone is facilitated for that for which he was created." Then he recited: "So as for he who gives and fears Allah and believes in the good, We will make easy for him the easy. And as for he who withholds and considers himself self-sufficient, and denies the good, We will make easy for him the difficult" So if you see in yourself that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has bestowed upon you guidance, success, righteous deeds, and love of goodness and the people of goodness, then rejoice, for this is evidence of what? Yes, that you are among the people of the left hand, for whom happiness has been written. And for this reason He said:
And guidance and good news for the Muslims
Yes.
And We certainly know that they say, "It is only a human being who teaches the Prophet."
[An-Nahl 16:103]
He did not say "We have known," He said
We certainly know لقد نعلم
because their saying is renewed, so expressing it in the present tense was better than expressing it
The student: in the past tense

The Shaykh : in the past tense. If He had said "We have known," it would occur to the minds of some people that We knew that they said that. But
We know.
that they say, as He, the Exalted, said:
And We already know that your breast is constrained by what they say.
[Al-Hijr 15:97]
The constriction of the chest of the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, was it previous or did it not cease?
The student: It did not cease

The Shaykh : It did not cease.
Already Allah knows the hinderers among you and those [hypocrites] who say to their brothers, "Come to us," قد يعلمُ الله المعوقين منكم والقائلين لإخوانهم هلم إلينا
[Al-Ahzab 33:18]
Yes, meaning
The student: in the future

The Shaykh : in the future, meaning that they will turn away in the future, so Allah knows them.
And We certainly know that they say, "It is only a human being who teaches the Prophet."
[An-Nahl 16:103]
Quraysh said that this Qur'an which Muhammad brings, one of them knows it, he knows the Qur'an, he relates to him from the stories of the former peoples, as they claim.
The legends of the former peoples.
And he comes and says that this is from Allah - I seek refuge in Allah - they claimed that it is the speech of humans, and the strange thing is that they claim that it is the speech of a human and it is said
Bring forth something like it ائتوا بمثله
and are they able?
The student: No.

The Shaykh : They are not able. Well, you are humans, you are the princes of eloquence and eloquent princes, why do you not bring something like it? They are not able. They say that Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him - they do not say peace and blessings be upon him, yes - they say that Muhammad receives the Qur'an from this human. The human is a blacksmith, the Messenger used to sit with him in Makkah, he used to sit with him in an ordinary sitting, and he teaches him, and he comes and tells us this Qur'an. Yes, what is the answer? He said:
The tongue of the one they refer to is foreign
[An-Nahl 16:103]
And for this reason we stop at the word
Give good tidings بشر
It is only a human being who teaches the Prophet
[An-Nahl 16:103]
You must stop, because if you connect
The tongue of those لسان الذين
the meaning is not clarified, so stop.
And We certainly know that they say, "It is only a human being who teaches the Prophet."
[An-Nahl 16:103]
The response to them:
The tongue of the one they refer to is foreign
[An-Nahl 16:103]
The tongue of the one they refer to
[An-Nahl 16:103]
They incline, meaning they lean, because their statement is a lean away from the correct, far from the correct.
The tongue of the one they refer to is foreign
[An-Nahl 16:103]
The scholars said that the foreigner (al-'ajami) is the one who does not speak with clarity, and the foreigner (al-'ajami) without the hamza is the one who does not speak Arabic. Did you understand the difference?
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : Foreigner (ajami) means he does not speak Arabic, foreigner (ajami) does not speak with clarity, whether Arab or non-Arab. The tongue of the one to whom they incline is foreign, he does not speak with clarity, he does not speak with clear Arabic. He said:
and this Qur'an is [in] a clear Arabic language.
[An-Nahl 16:103]
Allah is the Greatest, Arabic.
Clear مبين
Clear, or eloquent and clear? It is all clear in itself, clear to others, Arabic speech, the most eloquent speech. How does it come from this foreign speech, from this foreign man whose tongue is foreign and who does not speak with clarity?
Yes, and some scholars said that the foreigner (ajami) is the one who speaks foreign languages, even if the person is not a foreigner (ajami). Yes, but the first is the known among most of the eloquent, the people of language.
Well, what is the point of these verses? His saying:
and Allah is most knowing of what He sends down
[An-Nahl 16:101]
Say, [O Muhammad], "The Pure Spirit has brought it down from your Lord قل نزله روح القدُس من ربك
[An-Nahl 16:102]
and this Qur'an is [in] a clear Arabic language.
[An-Nahl 16:103]
For it is in clear, eloquent Arabic letters, but the author left the verse after it because there is no point in it, but it is beneficial.
(104) Indeed, those who do not believe in the verses of Allah - Allah will not guide them, and for them is a painful punishment. (105) They only invent falsehood who do not believe in the verses of Allah, and it is those who are the liars.
[An-Nahl 16:104-105]
So those who do not believe in the verses of Allah, Allah does not guide them - I seek refuge in Allah - guidance is blocked for them, and in this is a reference to what was mentioned earlier, which is that you believe so that you may be guided, or you believe and you find guidance. Did you understand? Well.
This reality has a benefit in many things, meaning people have started to ask about it regarding the attributes of Allah, for example, how does He descend to the lowest heaven while He is in the height? What do we say to him? If you believe, you will be guided. If you believe that He descends in reality, you will know that this is not impossible, because in one aspect of
The student: Allah

The Shaykh : In the case of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), nothing is like Him. For example, the verse mentioned a moment ago,
a wall about to collapse, so al-Khidh r restored it
[Al-Kahf 18:77]
, says, "How does he want it? He wants to demolish the wall." We should say, "Believe, and you will be guided." Believe in Allah? Say, "Yes." The wall is there to make it clear to you that this is not strange. This is a principle that should be fundamental for you: believe, and you will be guided.
Indeed, those who do not believe in the verses of Allah - Allah will not guide them
[An-Nahl 16:104]
And the Qur'an remains for them as blindness, may Allah protect us from that, and they are unable to be guided by it. We ask Allah for guidance for us and for you.

The questioner : Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Look, there is no question now, and not after the prayer either.
And blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions. We have previously mentioned the verses cited by the author (may Allah have mercy on him) to explain the belief of the people of the Sunnah and the community regarding the speech of Allah, the Qur'an. Their belief in this is that the Qur'an is the speech of their Lord, revealed, not created, from which it began and to which it returns. Among these is His saying, the Exalted:
And when We substitute a verse in place of a verse - and Allah is most knowing of what He sends down
[An-Nahl 16:101]
to the end. So what is the benefit of this parenthetical phrase?
and Allah is most knowing of what He sends down
[An-Nahl 16:101]
Abdullah Zidan.
The student: Establishing that the Qur'an has been revealed. This is the first point.

The Shaykh : The benefit of the parenthetical phrase
and Allah is most knowing of what He sends down
[An-Nahl 16:101]

The student: Establishing abrogation... for a wisdom.

The Shaykh : Yes, establishing that the change comes from knowledge of what is more beneficial and better for the servants. Allah does not replace one verse with another just like that, in foolishness, but rather with complete knowledge for the benefit of the servants.
What is meant by the Holy Spirit? Alian.
The student: Jibril

The Shaykh : And why was it described as the Holy Spirit? It is a title. Why was it titled the Holy Spirit?
The student: Because of its purity from betrayal.

The Shaykh : Yes, His saying
with the truth بالحق
Muhammad, and what does
with the truth بالحق
mean?
The student: That it is truly true in its revelation and true in what was revealed through it.

The Shaykh : Yes, that is right. It is true in its revelation and in what was revealed through it. Now, what is the evidence?
The student: The evidence is His saying, the Exalted:

The Shaykh : Yes
The student: ....
