The questioner : How do we learn, I mean, the lineage of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) so that we may love them?

The Shaykh : From where?

The questioner : ... How do we learn the lineage of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) so that we may love them? And it is well known that those before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) died before the mission ... .

The Shaykh : But among them, in the Household of the Prophet, many died after the Messenger (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him).

The questioner : No, those before him, is it an obligation ...

The Shaykh : We do not love the disbelievers. We are not required to love the disbelievers among his relatives, nor are we obligated to search for those before, those before the mission, unless we wish to search for them to know who their descendants are. Yes, that is correct.

The questioner : Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Yes, Mustafa.

The questioner : In the saying of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) ... regarding the statement of the Shaykh al-Islam that the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) are our mothers. Is it permissible from this angle to ... [treat them] as my mother, meaning out of affection for them? Would this contradict His saying (Glorified and Exalted is He):
Call them by their fathers ادعوهم لآبائهم
?

The Shaykh : This does no harm. This does no harm. But
Call them by their fathers ادعوهم لآبائهم
means that one should not attribute anyone to other than his father. Do not say, "O so-and-so, son of so-and-so," when he is not his father. As for saying, "This person is to me in the position of a father," the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said to his companions:
I am to you as a father is to you. أنا لكم إني لكم بمنزلة الوالد
Yes.
