Abu Talib: Do we say that we love him because he was the uncle of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), or do we say that we love his deeds?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : ... We say we love his deeds ...

The Shaykh : Yes, we love his deeds, but a person should stop at saying, "We love him. We love the deeds he performed." As for loving him himself, a person, by Allah, should be cautious, even though he is a disbeliever. If he had been a believer but had open sinfulness and obedience to Allah, we would have loved him for his obedience and disliked him for his open sinfulness. But as for a disbeliever, I am cautious about declaring love for him. Yes, that is right.
