The Shaykh : And the Mu'tazilah are more consistent than you in their principle, because the Mu'tazilah, what do they say? They deny the attributes, all the attributes. They say, "Relieve us of the contradiction. Allah has no attribute, no knowledge, no power, no life, no wisdom, and no speech. Relieve us of this." The Jahmiyyah deny the names and the attributes. Look, I seek refuge in Allah, each group took its share. The Jahmiyyah said, "Leave us alone regarding the contradiction. Why do you affirm the names and deny the attributes? We deny them all, every single one, no name and no attribute." Yes, that is right. So thank Allah that He has spared you from what He has afflicted others with. And these people said, "We deny the attributes and affirm the names." And the third group: "We affirm the names and some of the attributes and deny the rest." And the people of the Sunnah said, "We affirm everything that Allah has affirmed for Himself in His Book or on the tongues of His messengers." And this is the truth, because these are matters of the unseen that are not grasped by the intellect, so it is obligatory to receive them from... from whom? From the hearing, the Book and the Sunnah. Yes, that is right.
