Explanation of the statement of Ibn Malik (may Allah have mercy on him): The noun

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Now, "al-'alam": The noun is in the second rank after what?
The student: Pronouns.

The Shaykh : After pronouns, except for the name of the one and only named entity, which is Allah (Mighty and Majestic). This is the most well-known of the knowns by consensus. The name specific to Allah is the most well-known of the knowns, more well-known even than the pronoun. So when you say: Allah, Allah is my Lord, Allah is our Lord, it is absolutely impossible for a person to imagine anyone other than Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Therefore, they said that the noun, which is the name of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), is the most well-known of the knowns. But the noun of others comes in the second rank. For this reason, the author (may Allah have mercy on him) began with it after mentioning the pronoun; the author brought it after mentioning the pronoun. So what is the noun? The original meaning of al-'alam is the apparent, clear thing, like mountains, for example. Allah the Exalted said:
And of His signs are the ships in the sea, like mountains. ومن آياته الجواري في البحر كالأعلام
[Ash-Shuraa 42:32]
, meaning: like mountains. But here it is not the meaning that came in the Arabic language, although it agrees with it in the root of derivation and meaning.
