We said that prepositions only enter upon nouns, so how do we respond to the statement of some that "I was surprised that you are a traveler . . ."?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The student: We said that prepositions only enter upon nouns.

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student: So how do we respond to the statement of the one who says in the sentence "I was surprised that you traveled" or "I was surprised that you all traveled"?

The Shaykh : May Allah bless you, "an" and what it enters upon are interpreted as a verbal noun, and the estimation is: "I was surprised that you traveled," meaning: from your traveling. However, when the Arabs were informed of a female child, they said "She is not a good child", so they entered the preposition "ba" upon "ni'm." Some said: this is evidence that "ni'm" is a noun, but the correct view is that it is a verb. However, the "ba" entered upon something omitted, meaning: she is not the child about whom it is said "a good child," or it is said: she is not a good child, meaning: with this praise, because "ni'm" conveys praise.
