Ibn Malik’s statement: “And alif, waw, and nun for what is absent.”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The student: According to Ibn Malik: “And alif, waw, and nun for what is absent” and so on.

The Shaykh : Yes, and so on. What is “and so on” at the end?
The student: I mean, up to the end of the verse.

The Shaykh : As he said.
The student: And he said that these three pronouns do not occur except in the position of the subject (nominative case). For example, if Allah the Exalted said, or if a person said, “I saw the girls,” did not the feminine plural nun occur here in the position of the object (accusative case)?

The Shaykh : No, this is not a pronoun. This nun is in the same position as the mim in “I saw them” (masculine plural).
The student: It serves as a marker.

The Shaykh : It is merely a marker.
The student: O Shaykh, in *Sam*.

The Shaykh : Huh?
The student: In *Sam*.

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student: One aspect is precluded, and two aspects remain, causing confusion.
