The questioner : Regarding sorcery.
The Shaykh : Sorcery.
The questioner : Can a sorcerer cause harm in a place other than between a man and his wife?
The Shaykh : Leave the sorcerer aside for now. Is it possible for a person to separate a man from his wife without sorcery?
The questioner: No.
The Shaykh : How not? Heh heh, how not? It is possible.
The questioner : It is possible.
The Shaykh : So the answer is that it is possible.
The questioner : Meaning, it is possible to use sorcery in other...
Another questioner : ...
The Shaykh : Did you understand the answer?
The questioner: No.
The Shaykh : Heh, I said that your answer to my previous question, even if it came after a long delay, is that it is possible, is that not so? My question to you is: Is it possible for a man, for a person, to separate a man from his wife without sorcery? We agreed finally, without sorcery, we agreed finally. May Allah guide you. Be patient, be patient. May Allah guide you.
The questioner : And the method of sorcery.
The Shaykh : May Allah guide you. What is his question? His question is: without sorcery, is it possible for a person? And let me exaggerate a bit, because it seems that exaggeration is sometimes necessary. A wicked person, is it not possible for him to separate a man from his wife without sorcery? Now he says yes.
The questioner : But is it permissible for the sorcerer...?
The Shaykh : Listen, my brother, May Allah guide you. So we agreed that it is permissible for a wicked man to separate a man from his wife without sorcery. Well, that is my answer to your question. Did you understand the answer? What is it?
The questioner: Yes.
The Shaykh : What is it?
The questioner : That it is possible for someone to separate a man from his wife without sorcery.
The Shaykh : Without sorcery and with sorcery. Heh. Keep this in mind. You are lost. The truth is with you. Heh. The sorcerer. Now I will explain the matter to you. What is sorcery?[Al-Jinn 72:6] Sorcery is a cooperation between the devils of mankind and the devils of the jinn. That is sorcery. So if the wicked human, we agreed that without sorcery he can separate a man from his wife, then this wicked person, if he seeks the help of his like from the devils of the jinn, can separate a man from his wife a fortiori. Is it clear to you now? Meaning, you must keep in mind what sorcery is. It appears to be settled in the minds of many people that sorcery is only charlatanism and sorcery through words. This has a basis in Islam, where he (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the authentic hadith: Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 48:220 This is authentic. But sorcery is not limited to ornate and decorated words. This is not the only sorcery. Rather, there is cooperation between the devils of mankind, some with others, and between the devils of mankind and the devils of the jinn. And you, especially in this time, hear many, many stories when some people go to those who claim to expel devils from the bodies of humans. Some stand when what is prescribed in the Shari'ah of reciting some verses of the Qur'an is done over that possessed person, and some add to that things that have no basis in the Sunnah. The important thing is that sorcery has a reality, and this reality must not be denied because it is established by the Book and the Sunnah. As for the Book, which is the Noble Qur'an, the story of Musa (peace be upon him) with the sorcerers of Pharaoh is very well known, where He (Glorified and Exalted is He) said: [Taha 20:66] What was the effect of this sorcery on the heart of Musa, the one who spoke to Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He)? He (Mighty and Majestic) said: [Taha 20:67-68] Imagine now if a man other than Musa (peace be upon him) stood before such sorcery. Could this sorcery, which cast fear and terror in his heart, kill him? Can you imagine with me this or not? If fear intensifies in a person, it will kill him. But Allah (Mighty and Majestic) made the heart of Musa firm and said to him: [Taha 20:68]; and therefore, after the effect of the sorcery began to seep into the heart of Musa and it became apparent that Musa was afraid, Allah (Mighty and Majestic) made him firm. So sorcery has an effect. This is the example in the Qur'an itself in the story of Musa (peace be upon him). And there is in the Sunnah, in "Sahih al-Bukhari" and "Sahih Muslim," from the hadith of the Lady A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her): "That a man from the Jews bewitched the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so it was imagined to him that he was doing something and he was not doing it, and that he had come to something and he had not come to it." And he remained so (peace and blessings be upon him) for six months, but he was in control of his mind and reason, and he did not lag behind in leading the Muslims in prayer except in the illness of his death, as you know, although it was an illness due to the sorcery for six months, but he did not cease from all his duties, whether those related to his prophethood and message or those related to his being the head of state. He performed all these duties completely, but it was imagined to him that he was doing something and he was not doing it. And the explanation of this imagination came in some narrations that it was limited and restricted. And this is very useful for you in refuting some of the scholars of kalam in the last of times, who, unfortunately, revived the school of the Mu'tazilah, who preferred reason over transmission and opinion over text, when they deny this hadith with many doubts and interpretations that Allah has not sent down with any authority. Among them is what concerns me now at this moment: How does sorcery affect the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he is from Satan? We say: And they also argue: [Al-Hijr 15:42], We say: Yes, Satan has no authority over the righteous servants of Allah, and at their head is the one who is a Messenger and a Prophet, especially their master, our Prophet (may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him). So Satan does not affect him from this aspect, the aspect of conveying the message and performing the trust entrusted to him. But a human devil may affect him by breaking his canine tooth, and he may also affect him through the path of sorcery that came in this hadith, which was the work of a man from the Jews named Labid ibn al-A'sam. The peak of physical strength, in addition to mental and intellectual strength. So it is established in "Sahih al-Bukhari" from the hadith of Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him): "That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was given the strength of thirty men." Therefore, it is no surprise that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), before he was bewitched by that Jew, would visit his nine wives in one night. This is the peak of strength. And the story of his wrestling with Rukanah and his overcoming him, while he was the champion of the Arabs in wrestling at that time, is also well known in the Prophetic biography. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was affected by the sorcery of Labid the Jew and became ill until the cure came to him in the form of meaning: bewitched from his sorcery? A comb of hairs from the hairs of the Messenger. In one way or another, that Jew reached these hairs and wrapped them in a special way and threw them into an abandoned well. "So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Ali and he undid that sorcery, and the recitation of the two Mu'awwidhat was revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): [Al-Falaq 113:1], [An-Nas 114:1], and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned," as came in the same hadith: As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 54:57 So sorcery has an effect, but its effect may sometimes be physical and sometimes mental and intellectual. As for the first effect, it includes all humans, as we mentioned regarding Musa (peace be upon him), Musa (peace be upon him) and our Prophet (peace be upon him). As for the mind, it does not reach the chosen and the good. This completes the answer to that question.

And there were men from mankind who sought refuge in men from the jinn, so they [only] increased them in burden.
And indeed, some of eloquence is sorcery.
And suddenly their ropes and staffs seemed to him from their magic that they were moving [like snakes].
(67) And he sensed within himself apprehension, did Moses. (68) Allah said, "Fear not. Indeed, it is you who are superior.
Fear not. Indeed, it is you who are superior.
Indeed, My servants - no authority will you have over them
That Allah, Mighty and Majestic, sent to him two angels while he was lying on his bed. One stood at his head and the other at his feet. One of them said to the other, while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was listening: “What is the matter with the man?” The other said: “He has been subjected to magic”
Subjected to magic?
