Ruling on One Who Bought Pieces of Cloth and Found More

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
If I bought seven pieces of cloth from a man, and then found them to be eight, what should I do with the extra, and the seller has left?

Answer:
This person is asking and saying: If he bought seven pieces of cloth and then found them to be eight, what should he do? And it is like one who bought seven vessels, and when he counted them, he found them to be eight vessels. What should he do with the extra? Does he return it to its owner?
Yes, he should return it to its owner, and he should search for him and give him the extra. If he does not find him, he should give it in charity to the poor, intending it on behalf of its owner. But this is after he has kept it for a period of time, in case he finds him. If he does not find him, he gives it in charity; he gives it to some of the poor, intending it on behalf of its owner, and he will receive its reward on the Day of Resurrection.
