Taking a fee for handling entry procedures is permissible with conditions

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: I paid some money to a person who promised to handle the entry procedures for the country, and he did. After I entered, I contracted with one of the government departments to work in my field of specialization under a lawful contract. But one of my colleagues told me: that the salary I receive is forbidden; on the grounds that what is built upon the forbidden is forbidden—meaning by that what I paid in order to obtain the visit visa. Is this statement correct or not? Guide us, may Allah reward you with good.

Answer: This requires a detailed explanation: If your agent performed the lawful means; by exerting effort in dealing with the officials in order for them to allow you entry without lying, betrayal, or bribery, then there is no blame in that; because what you paid of money was in exchange for his effort for you, his dealings with the officials, and his seeking permission for you to enter.
As for if his work was through the way of bribery, betrayal, and lying, then it is not permissible for you nor for him, and it is not permissible for you to assist him in falsehood, or to be content with falsehood. And it is not permissible for him to use bribery and lying; so the obligatory is to distinguish and not to generalize. End of the answer.
