What is recommended for the pilgrim to do on the day of 'Id

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: Is it permissible to stone the pillars and then return to the sacrifice before performing the tawaf?

Answer: The Sunnah for the pilgrim on the day of 'Id consists of four matters, or possibly five:

The first: The stoning, by stoning the Jamarah, meaning the Jamarah al-'Aqabah on the day of 'Id with seven pebbles. If one did not stone it in the last part of the night, he should stone it after the sun rises, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did. And if the weak among women, the sick, the elderly, and those accompanying them stone it in the latter half of the night of Muzdalifah, that suffices them. As for the strong, what is prescribed for them is to stone it in the forenoon after the sun rises, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did.

The second: The sacrifice, sacrificing the hady if one has hady. He should sacrifice it in Mina, which is better if he finds poor people, or in Makkah and the rest of the Haram.
Camels are sacrificed while standing with their left hand tied, and cattle and sheep are slaughtered on their left side, facing the qiblah.

The third: Shaving or shortening the hair. The man shaves his head or shortens it, and shaving is better; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated for the shavers with forgiveness and mercy three times, and for the shorteners once. The woman only shortens; she cuts a little from the ends of the hair on her head. And if her head is in braids, she takes a little from the end of each braid.

The fourth: And it is the Tawaf al-Ifadah, which is called the Tawaf of Hajj. And if he has sa'y to do, it becomes the fifth. This sa'y is for the one performing tamattu'; he has to do the sa'y for his Hajj, and the first one was for his 'Umrah. And so it is for the one performing ifrad and the one performing qiran, if they did not do sa'y with the Tawaf al-Qudum.
And these are the matters done on the day of 'Id, and they are five: first is the stoning, then the slaughter, then shaving or shortening, then the tawaf, then the sa'y for the one who has sa'y to do.
And Allah has prescribed the doing of these matters, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arranged them in this order: he stoned, then he sacrificed his hady, then he shaved his head, then he applied perfume and headed to Makkah for the tawaf, may peace and blessings be upon him.
But if some of them are done before others, there is no harm. If he sacrifices before he stones, or performs tawaf before he sacrifices, there is no harm in this; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about that and said:
No harm will come; no harm will comeلا حرج لا حرج
Sunan Abi Dawud 2015Sahih (Al-Albani)
may peace and blessings be upon him.
And women may need to go to Makkah for the tawaf before their menstrual cycle begins. So if she goes in the last part of the night and performs the tawaf before anything happens to her regarding the stoning, or the sacrifice, or the shortening, there is no harm in this. The matter is broad in this, and praise be to Allah. It is established that Umm Salimah (may Allah be pleased with her) stoned the Jamarah on the night of 'Id before Fajr, then she went to Makkah and performed the Tawaf al-Ifadah. And it is established that he (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked by a questioner who said: O Messenger of Allah, I performed the Ifadah before I stoned. He said:
There is no harm.لا حرج
And another asked him and said: I sacrificed before I stoned. He said:
There is no harm.لا حرج
The Companion who narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: So he was not asked on that day, meaning the day of sacrifice, about anything that was brought forward or delayed except that he said:
No harm will come; no harm will comeلا حرج، لا حرج
Sunan Abi Dawud 2015Sahih (Al-Albani)
may the best of prayers and purest of salutations be upon him from his Lord. And this is from the gentleness of Allah the Exalted toward His servants, so praise and grace belong to Allah.
