The Dislike of Exaggeration in Women's Mahr

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: Is it permissible for the woman's family to consume the mahr if it is exaggerated, or not? And what is the evidence?

Answer: Exaggeration in women's mahr is disliked, and it is recommended to be lenient and make it easy in this regard, but the mahr is not forbidden to the woman even if there is exaggeration in it; because of the saying of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) :
And you gave one of them a qintarوَآتَيْتُمْ إِحْدَاهُنَّ قِنْطَارًا
the verse [al-Nisa: 20], and the qintar is a large amount of wealth, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) married Umm Habibah for four hundred dinars, which the Najashi gave her on his behalf (peace and blessings be upon him), its value being four thousand dirhams at that time.
