The Ruling on Imported Meats from Communist, Zoroastrian, and Pagan Countries

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: What is the ruling in the Shari'ah regarding dried meats? And what about dried Danish chicken?

Answer: Meats that come from the lands of the People of the Book—and they are the Jews and the Christians—are lawful, provided it is not known that they were slaughtered in a manner contrary to the Shari'ah, such as by strangulation or beating, or the like. This is because the food of the People of the Book is lawful for us, as Allah the Exalted said in Surat al-Ma'idah:
This day [all] good foods have been made lawful, and the food of those who were given the Scripture is lawful for you and your food is lawful for themالْيَوْمَ أُحِلَّ لَكُمُ الطَّيِّبَاتُ وَطَعَامُ الَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ الْكِتَابَ حِلٌّ لَّكُمْ وَطَعَامُكُمْ حِلُّ لَّهُمْ
[al-Ma'idah: 5].
As for meats that come from communist, socialist, Zoroastrian, or pagan countries, they are forbidden; because they are not People of the Book, and they do not have the ruling of Muslims.
