The ruling on boycotting one's wife and whether it is specific to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is boycotting for a period of one month a specific attribute of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), or is it for his Ummah in general?

Answer:
No, it is not a specific attribute of his. If a husband sees fit to do so, there is no harm. If he sees fit to boycott them, he may do so, and he may increase the duration, but he must not exceed four months
For those who swear not to have sexual relations with their wives is a waiting time of four monthsلِلَّذِينَ يُؤْلُونَ مِنْ نِسَائِهِمْ تَرَبُّصُ أَرْبَعَةِ أَشْهُرٍ
[Al-Baqarah: 226]. If she requests it, he must stop: either he fulfills his obligation, or he reconciles, or he divorces her.
As for boycotting her for a month, two months, or more, up to four months, there is no harm.
Q: Is the intended meaning of boycotting sexual intercourse, or a complete severance of contact?
The Shaykh: Boycoting them once for a full month.
Q: Boycoting speech and sexual intercourse?
The Shaykh: Everything, boycoting them in their room.
Q: Was the boycotting by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) the known Ila'?
The Shaykh: It is not Ila'.
Q: What is the difference between it and Ila'?
The Shaykh: In Ila', he swears that he will not have intercourse with her, saying: "By Allah, I will not have intercourse with her"; this is Ila'.
Q: Was this boycotting due to financial maintenance?
The Shaykh: It is well known that it was due to financial maintenance.
