Does enjoying the pleasures of this world diminish the reward of the Hereafter?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What one obtains from this world diminishes the reward on the Day of Resurrection.

Answer:
As mentioned in this hadith: enjoying its pleasures and its bliss, and Allah is the One to be sought for help, and Allah knows best. This is a narration by Ibn Abi al-Dunya. Al-Mundhiri says: with a good chain, and Allah knows best. One may argue for it based on the saying of the Exalted and Majestic:
And the Day those who disbelieved are exposed to the Fire [it will be said], "You exhausted your pleasures during your worldly life and enjoyed themوَيَوْمَ يُعْرَضُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا عَلَى النَّارِ أَذْهَبْتُمْ طَيِّبَاتِكُمْ فِي حَيَاتِكُمُ الدُّنْيَا وَاسْتَمْتَعْتُمْ بِهَا
[Al-Ahqaf: 20].
It is narrated from 'Umar that he saw Jabir with some meat he had bought for his family, so he said: Do you buy whatever you desire? Have you not heard Allah say to a people:
You exhausted your pleasures during your worldly lifeأَذْهَبْتُمْ طَيِّبَاتِكُمْ فِي حَيَاتِكُمُ الدُّنْيَا
[Al-Ahqaf 46:20]
?
The point is that a person should do something to the extent of reducing, and to the extent of having asceticism in some things; so that he accustoms himself to contentment, and does not constantly and continuously buy pleasures and good things. Rather, at times he should be somewhat austere and somewhat light; so that the soul does not become accustomed to desiring these things, which are considered among its immediate pleasures, its immediate preoccupations, and its self-imposed burdens, until it needs a lot of money, which might lead him to fall into earnings that are not good, or to borrowing that may be difficult for him to repay. But if Allah makes it easy, the matter is broad, praise be to Allah, as the Exalted and Majestic said:
O you who have believed, eat from the good things which We have provided for youيَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُلُوا مِنْ طَيِّبَاتِ مَا رَزَقْنَاكُمْ
[Al-Baqarah: 172], the matter is broad. And the Exalted said:
O messengers, eat from the good foods and work righteousnessيَا أَيُّهَا الرُّسُلُ كُلُوا مِنَ الطَّيِّبَاتِ وَاعْمَلُوا صَالِحًا
[Al-Mu'minun: 51]. So if it is with ease and without self-imposed burden, then praise be to Allah.
