The reciter: And Ishaq ibn Ibrahim al-Hanbali and Muhammad ibn Abi Umar narrated to us, and their wording of the hadith was similar. Ibn Abi Umar said: "He narrated to us," and Ishaq said: "He informed us." Abd al-Razzaq informed us, and Ma'mar informed us from al-Zuhri from Ubayd Allah ibn Abdullah ibn Abi Thawr from Ibn Abbas, who said: لم أزل حريصا أن أسأل عمر عن المرأتين من أزواج النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم اللتين قال الله تعالى إن تتوبا إلى الله فقد صغت قلوبكما حتى حج عمر وحججت معه فلما كنا ببعض الطريق I was eager to ask 'Umar about the two women among the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about whom Allah the Exalted said: "If you both repent to Allah, indeed your hearts have inclined," until 'Umar performed Hajj and I performed Hajj with him. When we were at a certain point on the road
The Shaykh : His saying, may He be Exalted:[At-Tahrim 66:4] Where is the answer to the condition? Some people think that the answer is the phrase "and you have both turned away," but that is not the case; rather, it is omitted. The answer is: "If you both turn to Allah in repentance, that is best for you. You have both turned away." This means that this is not the answer to the condition, but rather an explanation of the cause from which repentance is necessary. Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, yes.

When we were at a certain point on the road, 'Umar turned aside and I turned aside with him to relieve myself. Then he came to me, and I poured water over his hands, and he performed wudu'. I said, "O Commander of the Faithful, who are the two women among the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to whom Allah (Mighty and Majestic) said: 'If you both repent to Allah, indeed your hearts have been inclined'?" 'Umar said, "How strange you are, O Ibn 'Abbas!" — al-Zuhri said, "By Allah, he disliked what he asked him about, but he did not conceal it from him — he said, "They are Hafsa and 'A'ishah." Then he began to narrate the hadith. He said, "We, the people of Quraysh, were a people who dominated our women. When we came to al-Madinah, we found a people whose women dominated them, so our women began to learn from their women. And my house was in the upper part of the Banu Umayyah ibn Zayd district. One day I became angry with my wife, and she was arguing with me, so I disapproved of her arguing with me. She said, 'What is wrong with you that you disapprove of my arguing with you? By Allah, the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) argue with him, and one of them would boycott him from morning until night.' So I went and entered upon Hafsa and said, 'Do you argue with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)?' She said, 'Yes.' I said, 'Does one of you boycott him from morning until night?' She said, 'Yes.' I said, 'Woe to the one among you who does that, and she has lost! Does one of you not fear that Allah will become angry with her because of the anger of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)?' She was in a state of ruin. Do not argue with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and do not ask him for anything. Ask me for whatever you wish, and do not be deceived by the fact that your neighbor is more beautiful and more beloved to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) than you are' — he meant 'A'ishah. He said, "And I had a neighbor from the Ansar, and we would take turns going down to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); he would go down one day and I would go down another day. He would bring me news of the revelation and other matters, and I would bring him the same. And we used to talk about the Ghassanid tribe shoeing their horses to raid us. My companion went down, and then he came to me in the evening, knocked on my door, and called out to me. I went out to him, and he said, 'A great matter has happened...'".
The Shaykh : It was previously mentioned that he called out to him saying, "Open, open." This indicates his concern for the matter and his eagerness for it to be opened quickly, just as we say now when we knock on someone's door about an important matter, "Open, open." Yes.

The Shaykh : His saying, may He be Exalted:
If you two [wives] repent to Allah, [it is best], for your hearts have deviated.
