The reciter: Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah and 'Abd Allah ibn Barrad al-Ash'ari narrated to us, and they said: 'Abd Allah ibn Idris narrated to us from al-Hasan ibn Furat from his father, with this chain of narration, the same.

The Shaykh : He says in the hadith:
Banu Isra'il were ruled over by the Prophets. When one Prophet died, another succeeded him كَانَتْ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ تَسُوسُهُمُ الْأَنْبِيَاءُ، كُلَّمَا هَلَكَ نَبِيٌّ خَلَفَهُ نَبِيٌّ
Sahih Muslim 1842a
, in it is evidence that what the messengers brought is the governance by which creation is governed, their affairs are managed, and they are directed toward it. Whoever claims that the Shari'ah is separate from governance has erred and gone astray. Rather, the Shari'ah in reality is the governance, the governance of the messengers (peace and blessings be upon them) which they brought from Allah the Exalted, and it is the best of all governance without doubt.
His saying:
When one Prophet died, another succeeded him; but after me there is no prophet كلما هلك نبي خلفه نبي وَإِنَّهُ لَا نَبِيَّ بَعْدِي
Sahih Muslim 1842a
, is the negation of the genus, so it negates any prophet, meaning there is no one whose prophethood is particular or general. Whoever claims to be a prophet after the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is a disbeliever, and whoever believes him in his prophethood is a disbeliever, because it is a denial of the clear Qur'an and the clear Sunnah.
and there will be caliphs and they will be quite large in number. His Companions said: What do you order us to do (in case we come to have more than one Caliph)? He said: The one to whom allegiance is sworn first has a supremacy over the others. Concede to them their due rights (i. e. obey them). God (Himself) will question them about the subjects whom He had entrusted to them.
Sahih Muslim 1842a
: This means if they become multiple, we take the first one. An example of this is if a person seizes control of the Muslims, and then another arises in some place and seeks the pledge of allegiance for himself, we do not allow him that, and we take the pledge of the first one and fight with him against this one who rose up seeking the caliphate. However, this is conditional upon our having the capability. If we do not have the capability, and only blood is spilled and honor is violated, then patience is obligatory.
