The reciter: And Salama ibn Shubayb narrated to me, al-Hasan ibn A'yan narrated to us, Ma'qil narrated to us from Zayd ibn Abi Unaysah from Yahya ibn Husayn from his grandmother Umm al-Husayn. He said: I heard her say:
I performed Hajj with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) during the Farewell Pilgrimage. She said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke a great deal, then I heard him say: If a mutilated slave is appointed over you—I think she said: a black one—who leads you by the Book of Allah, then listen to him and obey him.
حَجَجْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَجَّةَ الْوَدَاعِ، قَالَتْ : فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَوْلًا كَثِيرًا: ثُمَّ سَمِعْتُهُ، يَقُولُ : إِنْ أُمِّرَ عَلَيْكُمْ عَبْدٌ مُجَدَّعٌ - حَسِبْتُهَا قَالَتْ : أَسْوَدُ - يَقُودُكُمْ بِكِتَابِ اللهِ، فَاسْمَعُوا لَهُ وَأَطِيعُوا
