Explanation of the author's statement: "…and it suffices from a person of discernment…"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : He said "and it suffices from a person of discernment". The verb "suffices" refers back to the adhan. It suffices from a person of discernment. A person of discernment is one who has reached the age of seven up to puberty. This person of discernment, who has reached seven years of age up to puberty, is called a person of discernment. He is called a person of discernment because he distinguishes; he understands the address and returns the response. Some scholars said that a person of discernment is not restricted by age, but rather by a characteristic. Those who said it is not restricted by age cited the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
Command your children to pray at seven, and beat them for it at ten. مروا أبنائكم بالصلاة لسبع واضربوهم عليها لعشر
Sunan ad-Daraqutni 3:5
. They made the first age at which a boy is commanded [to pray] seven years. This indicates that before that, directing the command to him is not valid. Why? It may be said because he does not understand the command, or it may be said because he cannot bear the command. If we adopt the first cause, then seven years is the limit for discernment. If we adopt the second, then that is not the limit for discernment; the age of seven is not the limit for discernment if we say that one under seven cannot bear the command, even if he understands it. Those who said it is restricted by the characteristic said that the word "mumayyiz" (person of discernment) is an active participle derived from "mizan" (scale/balance), as in "I distinguished." If it is derived from that, then if this meaning is found in a child, the description is established for him, such as one who understands the address and returns the response. He is called a person of discernment. He understands the meaning. For example, if you call him "O boy," because the child, when you call him "O boy," goes, and he is small, "O boy, pay attention," and if his mother calls him, he rushes to her. This is not what is intended. What is intended is that he understands the speech. For example, you say, "Bring water," and he goes and brings water. It is not that if you say "Bring water," he goes and brings tea. That is not acceptable. That is not a person of discernment. A person of discernment is one who understands the address and returns the response. But seven years is generally the limit; it is generally the limit. In any case, we are now discussing whether the adhan of a person of discernment is valid or not. The author holds that it is valid, even if there is no one in the town except this boy of discernment and he calls the adhan, then he is sufficient. This is clear because the author says it suffices from a person of discernment. So, what is the basis for its sufficiency? They say that this is a remembrance of Allah, and puberty is not a condition for the remembrance of Allah. So, if a boy remembers Allah, Allah writes reward for him, and his remembrance is valid from him. The adhan is a remembrance, so if a person of discernment calls the adhan, his adhan is sufficient. Some scholars said that the adhan of a person of discernment is not sufficient because his statement is not trusted and he is not relied upon. One who is seven years old may not know when the sun sets, or when every shadow becomes the length of its object, or when the dawn breaks. So, he is not relied upon and his statement is not trusted. Some scholars distinguished and said that if he has someone else with him, there is no harm, but if he does not have someone else with him, he is not relied upon. In reality, a person of discernment is not relied upon; he is not relied upon. However, with clocks today, the matter is made easier. Also, a distinction is made between one who is seven years old and one who is fourteen years old, because one who is fourteen is close to puberty. As for the meaning, we do not see a basis for making puberty a condition, because this is a remembrance of Allah, and the remembrance of Allah is valid from one below puberty and from one above puberty. So, according to the author's statement, puberty is not a condition; puberty is not required. What about intellect? It is a condition, because it is not possible for him to know how to call the adhan if he is not of sound mind.
