The discussion regarding the definition of zakah and the ruling on withholding it.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : What is zakah in the language? The one behind, repeat.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : ... You? Huh?

The questioner : Growth and increase.

The Shaykh : Growth and increase, okay, and in the Shari'ah?
The attendees: ...

The Shaykh : Glory be to Allah.
The attendees: ...

The Shaykh : What did you say, what? Yes?

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : We did not explain it in, okay, so we say that zakah in the language is growth; it is said that the crop grew (zakat) when it grew and increased. As for in the Shari'ah, it is a fixed share in a specific wealth, a share fixed by the Shari'ah in a specific wealth that is distributed to a specific group. Its ruling is obligatory, and its status in the religion is that it is one of the pillars of Islam and the most important of the pillars of Islam after the prayer. Whoever denies its obligation, among those who live among the Muslims, is a disbeliever because he is denying Allah and His Messenger and the consensus of the Muslims, whether he pays it out or not. And whoever acknowledges its obligation but is negligent in paying it out and is stingy with it, the most correct of the scholars' opinions is that he is an open sinner, but he is not a disbeliever, due to the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding the one who withholds zakah, which mentions his torment on the Day of Resurrection until judgment is passed between the servants, then he will see his path, either to Paradise or to the Fire. This indicates that he is not a disbeliever, for if he were a disbeliever, he would not have a path to Paradise. However, it is not obligatory in every wealth. Brother?
That it is obligatory in wealth that grows in reality or by estimation, meaning in wealth that grows and increases in reality or by estimation. So growth in reality is in livestock, crops, and fruits, and trade goods. And that which grows by estimation is like gold and silver, if one does not engage in trade with them; for even though they are stationary, they are estimated as growing, because whenever he wishes, he trades with them. The zakatable wealths are five categories: gold, silver, trade goods, livestock, and what comes out of the earth in all its varieties. These are the zakatable wealths. He repeats it to us, the wisdom of Allah.

The questioner : ... And what comes out of the earth and trade goods.

The Shaykh : And trade goods, these are five. There are things about which there is disagreement, such as honey, for example, whether there is zakah in it or not, and like the buried treasure, whether the obligatory in it is zakah or not, and the discussion of this will come, if Allah wills.
