And the indirect proposal: "I am desirous of one like you, and you respond to him with what you desire from you, and the like thereof"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : He (may Allah have mercy on him) says: "And the indirect proposal" is to say: "I am desirous of one like you, and you respond to him with what you desire from you, and the like thereof" This resembles a direct proposal. A man said to a woman in her waiting period, "I am desirous of one like you." She said, "You are not one from whom one desires," meaning that we desire you. Yet they do not consider this a direct proposal, because this may be merely a statement of fact, a simple report, such as saying, "One like you is not one from whom one desires," and she says, "One like you is also not one from whom one desires." This is correct; it indicates his desire for her and her desire for him, but it is not explicit as a proposal. Likewise, if he says, "When your waiting period is over, inform me," this is also what? An indirect proposal, because there is no explicit request.
