On the story of the man who belched, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : ... He says that ... .

The Shaykh : What?

The questioner : Belching is greater than passing gas. He was asked why? He said: Because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered them not to laugh at passing gas, and he rebuked the one who belched and said to him
Hold back from us كف عنا
... .

The Shaykh : Yes, that is not correct; the argument is not valid. The one who said
Hold back your belching from us كف عنا جشاءك
Some people drag out their belching audibly, so for that reason he forbade it. As for passing gas, that is not the case. But look, I see that when people belch, they say "Praise be to Allah," and when they pass gas, they do not say "Praise be to Allah." Yes, and what is the meaning?

The questioner : One.

The Shaykh : The meaning is the same. Therefore, we say: if you belch, do not praise [Allah]. It is not prescribed to praise Allah for it. However, if your belching indicates recovery from an illness, then you praise Allah. It is not for the belching itself, but for the recovery. Sometimes a person is afflicted with a stomach illness and cannot belch; when he recovers from it and belches, he praises Allah for his recovery. There is no harm in that; praising for a new blessing is permissible. Yes?
