The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
We have previously discussed the verses that the author (may Allah have mercy on him) cited regarding patience, its reward, and the exhortation to it. Then he (may Allah have mercy on him) began to explain the hadiths reported on this matter, mentioning the hadith of Abu Malik al-'Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Riyad as-Salihin 1413 up to his saying: : The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) explained in this hadith that patience is a light, meaning: it illuminates for the person, it illuminates for him when darknesses envelop him and calamities become severe. If he is patient, then this patience will be a light for him that guides him to the truth. For this reason, Allah the Exalted mentioned that it is among the things by which one seeks help. It is a light for the person in his heart, and a light for him in his path, his methodology, and his work, because as he proceeds to Allah Mighty and Majestic on the path of patience, Allah the Exalted increases him in guidance and light in his heart and makes him see clearly. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: . As for the rest of the hadith, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: . By "purity" he means: the purity of the person. means: half of faith. This is because faith is purification and adornment, meaning: disavowal of shirk (associating partners with Allah) and open sinfulness, disavowal of the polytheists and open sinners according to the degree of their sinfulness. So it is a purification, and this is the purity: that the person purifies himself, both physically and spiritually, from everything that causes harm. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made it half of faith.
He said: Because "Subhan Allah" means purifying Allah Mighty and Majestic from what is not befitting Him, such as defects and resembling the created beings. So Allah Mighty and Majestic is purified from every defect in His names, attributes, actions, and rulings. You will not find in His names a name that includes deficiency or defect. For this reason, Allah the Exalted said: [Al-A'raf 7:180]. And you will not find in His attributes an attribute that includes a defect or deficiency. For this reason, Allah the Exalted said: [An-Nahl 16:60] after He said: [An-Nahl 16:60]. So Allah Mighty and Majestic has the most perfect and highest description from all aspects. He also has perfection purified from every defect in His actions, as He the Exalted said: [Ad-Dukhan 44:38]. So there is no creation by Allah for play or amusement, but rather His creation is based on wisdom. Likewise, His rulings do not contain any defect or deficiency, as Allah the Exalted said: [At-Tin 95:8]. And He the Exalted said: [Al-Ma'idah 5:50]. So the important point is that tasbih (glorification) means purifying Allah from what is not befitting Him in His names, attributes, actions, and rulings. For this reason, he said: Mishkat al-Masabih 281: The narrator was uncertain whether the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Riyad as-Salihin 1413 or said: Riyad as-Salihin 1413. The meaning does not differ, meaning that "Subhan Allah" and "Alhamdulillah" (Praise be to Allah) fill what is between the heavens and the earth. This is because these two phrases contain the purification of Allah from every deficiency in His saying: , and the description of Allah with every perfection in His saying: . So these two phrases combine purification and adornment, as they say, meaning: between negating every defect and deficiency, and affirming every perfection. So "Subhan Allah" contains the negation of deficiencies, and "Alhamdulillah" contains the affirmation of perfections. And Allah Mighty and Majestic is praised in every state. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when something that pleased him happened, would say: Sunan Ibn Majah 3803Da'if (Darussalam). And when something other than that happened to him, he would say: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2738Hasan (Darussalam).
Then, here is a word that has become widespread recently among many people, which is their saying: "Praise be to Allah who is not praised for anything other than what is disliked". This is incomplete. This praise is incomplete, because your saying "for what is disliked other than Him" is an expression that indicates a lack of patience, or at least a lack of complete patience, and that you dislike this thing. And it is not befitting for a person to express it this way. Rather, he should express it as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to express it, and say:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2738Hasan (Darussalam), or say: Praise be to Allah who is not praised in every state other than Him. As for saying: "for what is disliked other than Him," this is a clear expression of opposition to what has befallen him from Allah Mighty and Majestic, and that he dislikes it. And I do not say that a person does not dislike what has befallen him of trial; it is the nature of a person to dislike that. But do not declare this with your tongue in the place of praising Allah. Rather, express it as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) expressed it: Praise be to Allah who is not praised in every state other than Him. And success is from Allah.
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
We have previously discussed the beginning of this hadith in which the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:: So prayer is a light: a light for the servant in his heart, and in his face, and in his grave, and in his resurrection. For this reason, you will find that the people who are most radiant in their faces are the most of them in prayer and the most humble in it for Allah Mighty and Majestic. And likewise, it will be a light for the person in his heart: it opens for him the door of knowledge of Allah Mighty and Majestic, and the door of knowledge of the rulings, actions, names, and attributes of Allah. And it is a light in the grave of the person, because prayer is the pillar of Islam. If the pillar stands, the building stands; and if the pillar does not stand, there is no building. So it is a light in the grave of the person. Likewise, it is a light in his resurrection on the Day of Resurrection, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed us: . So it is a light for the person in all his states. And this necessitates that the person preserve it, strive for it, and increase in it, so that his light, his knowledge, and his faith increase.
