The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
He said, may Allah have mercy on him: "Chapter on the virtue of dhikr (remembrance of Allah) and the exhortation to it. From Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Two words which are light on the tongue and heavy in the Balance, and beloved to the Most Merciful: Subhan-Allah wa bi hamdihi, Subhan-Allahil-'Azim (Glory and praise is to Allah, glory is to Allah the Almighty).
Sunan Ibn Majah 3806Sahih (Darussalam)
It is agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. And from him (may Allah be pleased with him), he said:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "The uttering of the words: "Subhan-Allah (Allah is free from imperfection), Al-hamdu lillah (all praise is due to Allah), La ilaha illallah (there is no true god except Allah) and Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest)' is dearer to me than anything over which the sun rises." قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: لأن أقول سبحان الله والحمد لله ولا إله إلا الله والله أكبر أحب إلي مما طلعت عليه الشمس
Riyad as-Salihin 1409
Muslim narrated it. And from him, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever says: La ilaha illa Allah wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul mulku wa lahul hamd, wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadir, one hundred times in a day, it is for him the equivalent of freeing ten slaves, one hundred good deeds are recorded for him, one hundred sins are erased from him, and it is a protection for him from Shaytan on that day until he goes to sleep, and no one comes with anything better than what he brought, except a man who did more than he did
And he said:
Whoever says, 'Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi,' one hundred times a day, will be forgiven all his sins even if they were as much as the foam of the sea.
Sahih al-Bukhari 6405
It is agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim."

The Shaykh : These three hadiths from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) all indicate the virtue of dhikr. The first: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
Two words which are light on the tongue and heavy in the Balance, and beloved to the Most Merciful: Subhan-Allah wa bi hamdihi, Subhan-Allahil-'Azim (Glory and praise is to Allah, glory is to Allah the Almighty).
Sunan Ibn Majah 3806Sahih (Darussalam)
And they are two words, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said, light on the tongue. Subhan Allahi wa bihamdihi is light. They are also heavy in the scale. When the Day of Resurrection comes and deeds are weighed, and these two words are placed in the scale, they weigh it down. And the third: they are beloved to the Most Merciful. This is the greatest of the two rewards: that Allah the Exalted loves them. And when Allah loves a deed, He loves the one who does it. So these two words are among the causes of Allah's love for the servant. What is the meaning of Subhan Allahi wa bihamdihi? The meaning is that you declare Allah the Exalted free from every defect and shortcoming, and that He is perfect in every aspect, (Exalted and Majestic is He). This tasbih (glorification) is accompanied by al-hamd (praise), which indicates the perfection of His bestowal and His kindness to His creation, (Exalted and Majestic is He), and the completeness of His wisdom and knowledge, and other aspects of His perfection. Subhan Allahil 'Azhim means the One of Majesty and Grandeur. So nothing is greater than Allah the Exalted in authority, nor greater in status, nor greater in wisdom, nor greater in knowledge. He is Great in His essence and Great in His attributes, (Exalted and Majestic is He). "Subhan Allahi wa bihamdihi, Subhan Allahil 'Azhim" So, O servant of Allah, keep up these two words, say them constantly, because they are heavy in the scale and beloved to the Most Merciful, and they do not harm you in any way; they are light on your tongue. "Subhan Allahi wa bihamdihi, Subhan Allahil 'Azhim" A person should say them and say them often. Then he mentioned the second hadith from Abu Hurayrah, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The uttering of (these words):" Exalted is Allah (He is free from imperfection), all praise is due to Allah, there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest," لأن أقول سبحان الله والحمدلله ولا إله إلا الله والله أكبر
Sahih Muslim 2695
Four words
is dearer to me than anything over which the sun rises
Sahih Muslim 2695
meaning: I love them more than all the world. And they are also light words: Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, La ilaha illa Allah, and Allahu Akbar. People today travel and cross deserts, wastelands, and dangerous places in order to earn a little of the world, which they may enjoy or which may be denied to them. And these great deeds, a person finds it difficult to do because Shaytan makes him lazy, causes him to fail, and discourages him from them. Otherwise, they are, as the Messenger (may the prayer and peace of Allah be upon him) said, more beloved to a person than what the sun rises upon. And if we suppose that you owned the entire world, all of it, its ownership, from when the sun rises until it sets, and then you died, what would you benefit? You would benefit nothing. But Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, La ilaha illa Allah, and Allahu Akbar are the lasting good deeds. Allah the Exalted said:
Wealth and children are [but] adornment of the worldly life. But the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord for reward and better for [one's] hope.
[Al-Kahf 18:46]
We should take advantage of the opportunity with these righteous deeds. As for the third and fourth hadiths, whoever says one hundred times in his day: La ilaha illa Allah wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul mulku wa lahul hamd, wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadir, he obtains these five benefits. First: he is like one who has freed ten slaves. Second: one hundred good deeds are recorded for him, one hundred sins are erased from him, and it is a protection for him from Shaytan. And no one comes with anything better than what he brought, except one who did more than he did. Five virtues if you say: La ilaha illa Allah wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul mulku wa lahul hamd, wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadir. And this is one hundred times, and it is easy. You can do it while you are waiting for the Fajr prayer, after you come to the mosque and perform the sunnah, you can say it and complete it. Or while you are on your way from your house to the mosque after the dawn has appeared, you can say it and benefit from it. And this is also one of the matters that a person should persist in, and he should say it at the beginning of the day so that it is a protection for him from Shaytan. As for Subhan Allahi wa bihamdihi, if one says it one hundred times, his sins are erased, even if they were like the foam of the sea. And this Subhan Allahi wa bihamdihi, you say it at the end of the day in order to erase the sins of the day. So seize the opportunity, my brother, seize the opportunity. Life passes and does not return. What has passed of your life will not return to you. And these deeds are light, beneficial, their reward is abundant, and their effort is little. We ask Allah to help us and you in His remembrance, His gratitude, and the excellence of His worship.
