Explanation of the words of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he quoted: "

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
The author quoted: "From Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When Allah wants good for his slave, He hastens his punishment in the world. And when He wants bad for His slave, He withholds his sins from him until he appears before Him on the Day of Judgement.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2396Hasan (Darussalam)
"
All matters are in the hand of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and by His will, because Allah the Exalted says of Himself:
an effecter of what He intends.
[Hud 11:107]
, and He says the Exalted:
Indeed, Allah does what He wills.
[Al-Hajj 22:18]
. So all matters are in the hand of Allah, and a person is never free from error, disobedience, and falling short in the obligatory duties. So when Allah wills good for His servant, He hastens the punishment for him in this world: either through his wealth, or his family, or his person, or one of those connected to him. The important thing is that the punishment is hastened, because punishments expiate evil deeds. So if the punishment is hastened and Allah expiates it for the servant, then he meets Allah with no sin upon him; the calamities and trials have purified him. It is even possible that death is made difficult for a person because of one or two evil deeds remaining upon him, until he exits this world pure from sins. And this is a blessing, because the punishment of this world is easier than the punishment of the Hereafter. But when Allah wills evil for His servant, He delays for him and lures him on, and He showers blessings upon him and averts calamities from him, until he becomes arrogant, may Allah protect us from that, and he rejoices with a blameworthy joy in what Allah has bestowed upon him. And at that time, he meets his Lord while submerged in his evil deeds, so he is punished for them in the Hereafter. We ask Allah for safety. So if you see a person openly defying Allah with disobedience, and Allah has protected him from trial and showered blessings upon him, then know that Allah only intended evil for him. Why? Because Allah delayed the punishment for him until he meets it on the Day of Resurrection.
Then he mentioned in this hadith
That the greatness of the reward is with the greatness of the trial
So the easy trial has a small reward, and the severe trial has a great reward, because Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is generous to people. When He tests them with hardships, He gives them a lot of reward for them, and when the calamities are light, the reward is light:
When Allah loves a people He tests them. Whoever accepts that wins His pleasure but whoever is discontent with that earns His wrath.
Sunan Ibn Majah 4031Hasan (Darussalam)
. And this is also good news for the believer; if he is tested with a calamity, he should not think that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) hates him.
