The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
We have previously mentioned the verses that the author (may Allah have mercy on him) cited in the chapter on certainty and reliance. Then he cited some of the verses in this regard, including the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Furqan 25:58] It is Allah, Mighty and Majestic, upon whom you should rely in all your affairs, whether small or great. For if Allah, Mighty and Majestic, does not make matters easy for you, they will not become easy. And one of the causes of their becoming easy is that you place your reliance on Him, especially when matters overwhelm you, worries multiply, and calamities increase. For you have no refuge except Allah, Mighty and Majestic. So you must place your reliance on Him and depend on Him until He suffices you. And in the saying of Allah the Exalted: [Al-Furqan 25:58] there is proof of the impossibility of death for the Lord, Mighty and Majestic: [Ar-Rahman 55:26-27] So Allah, Mighty and Majestic, does not die due to the perfection of His life. For He is always the First, before whom there is nothing, and the Last, after whom there is nothing.
Then, He, Glorified and Exalted is He, does not sleep either, due to the perfection of His life and His sustaining of the heavens and the earth. Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Baqarah 2:255] As for humans and jinn, they sleep and die. But as for the Lord, Mighty and Majestic, He does not sleep because He is free from the need for sleep. Humans sleep because they need it, for bodies become tired, weary, and bored, and sleep is a rest from the fatigue that has passed and a renewal of energy for the work that is to come. But Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, neither slumber nor sleep overtakes Him.
And Allah the Exalted said:[At-Talaq 65:3] meaning that He is sufficient for him. So if you place your reliance on Allah, He will suffice you in everything. But if you place your reliance on other than Allah, He will leave you to it, but you will be abandoned and your affairs will not be realized. And He said: [Al-Anfal 8:2-4] [Al-Anfal 8:2] meaning that when His greatness, majesty, and power are mentioned, hearts fear and tremble, and a person is affected to the extent that some of the Salaf, when the verses of fear were recited to them, would fall ill for days until people would visit them. But as for us, our hearts are hard. We ask Allah to soften our hearts, for the verses of fear are recited to us and pass by as if they were cold drink. We ask Allah for well-being. But the believer is the one whose heart trembles and fears when Allah is mentioned. Some of the Salaf, when it was said to them, "Fear Allah," would tremble until what was in their hands would fall. But our hearts now are stones, or worse. It is said to a person, "Fear Allah, fear Allah, fear Allah," but he does not benefit. [Al-Anfal 8:2] When they hear the words of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, their faith increases in two ways:
The first way is: believing in what Allah has informed us of regarding the unseen matters of the past and the future.
And the second is: accepting and submitting to the rulings of Allah. They comply with what Allah has commanded, and thereby their faith increases. And they refrain from what Allah has forbidden, seeking nearness to Him and fearing Him, and thereby their faith increases. So when His verses are recited to them, their faith increases in these two ways. And thus, if you see in yourself that every time you recite the Qur'an, your faith increases, then that is one of the signs of success. But if you are reading the Qur'an and not being affected by it, then you must treat yourself. You must treat yourself. I do not mean that you should go to the hospital and take a dose of pills or water or something else, but you must treat the heart. For if the heart does not benefit from the Qur'an and does not take a lesson from it, then it is a hard, sick heart. We ask Allah for well-being. So, my brother, you are the doctor of your own soul. Do not go to people. Read the Qur'an. If you see that you are affected by it in terms of faith, belief, and compliance, then happy for you, for you are a believer. Otherwise, you must take the medicine for your soul. Treat yourself before death comes to you, a death after which there is no life, meaning the death of the heart. As for the death of the body, after it is life, after it is resurrection, recompense, and reckoning. He, Mighty and Majestic, says:[Al-Anfal 8:2] They place their reliance only upon their Lord. Here, the object was placed before "their Lord" to indicate exclusivity and restriction, that they do not place their reliance except on Allah, Mighty and Majestic. For if you place your reliance on other than Allah, you are only placing your reliance on a person like you, like you, who does not strive for your benefit as you strive for your own benefit. But rely on Allah, Mighty and Majestic. For this reason, He said: They do not rely on anyone other than Him. They rely on Allah in their religious affairs and in their worldly affairs. [Al-Baqarah 2:3] They establish the prayer. They perform it uprightly with its obligations, conditions, and pillars, and they complete it with its complements. Among these is that they pray it at its times, and among these is that they pray it with the Muslims in their mosques. For as for the congregational prayer, people did not miss it except a hypocrite or one with an excuse. Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I have seen us" meaning with the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) "and none would miss it" meaning the prayer "except a hypocrite or a sick person. And indeed, a man would be brought, supported between two men" meaning a sick man "brought, supported between two men" meaning it means two men holding him "walking him slowly until he is placed in the row" Illness did not deter them from attending the mosques. May Allah be pleased with them. But many people today are the opposite of that; they are lazy and delay the congregational prayer. For this reason, if you compare the daytime prayers with the Fajr prayer, you will see a clear difference, because people are overcome by laziness in the Fajr prayer due to sleep and do not care about it much. [Al-Baqarah 2:3] meaning they spend their wealth in the pleasure of Allah and according to the commands of Allah, and in the appropriate place. [Al-Anfal 8:4] Truly, this is an emphasis of the sentence before it, meaning truly that is the truth. [Al-Anfal 8:74] We ask Allah to make us and you among them by His grace and generosity. Indeed, He is Generous and Noble.
We have previously mentioned the verses that the author (may Allah have mercy on him) cited in the chapter on certainty and reliance. Then he cited some of the verses in this regard, including the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And rely upon the Ever-Living who does not die
وتوكل على الحي الذي لا يموتwho does not die
الذي لا يموت(26) Everyone upon the earth will perish, (27) And there will remain the Face of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.
كل من عليها فان ويبقى وجه ربك ذو الجلال والإكرامThen, He, Glorified and Exalted is He, does not sleep either, due to the perfection of His life and His sustaining of the heavens and the earth. Allah the Exalted said:
Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep.
الله لا إله إلا هو الحي القيوم لا تأخذه سنة ولا نومAnd Allah the Exalted said:
And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him.
ومن يتوكل على الله فهو حسبه(2) The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts become fearful, and when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith; and upon their Lord they rely - (3) The ones who establish prayer, and from what We have provided them, they spend. (4) Those are the believers, truly. For them are degrees [of high position] with their Lord and forgiveness and noble provision.
إنما المؤمنون الذين إذا ذكر الله وجلت قلوبهم وإذا تليت عليهم آياتهم زادتهم إيمانا وعلى ربهم يتوكلون أولئك هم المؤمنون حقاThe believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts become fearful
إنما المؤمنون الذين إذا ذكر الله وجلت قلوبهمand when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith
