The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned the verses that contain the call to reflect upon the signs of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), including what was mentioned previously.
Then he said: "And His saying, and the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Ghashiyah 88:17-20] Do they not look? This is in the category of urging the looking into these four matters:
At the camels, how they were created. How did Allah (Mighty and Majestic) create them with this large body capable of carrying heavy loads, as Allah the Exalted said:[An-Nahl 16:7] These large, strong camels, Allah (Mighty and Majestic) made them submissive to His servants, so that a child can lead them to where he wants, even though if they were to run away, people would not be able to catch them. For this reason, it is prescribed that when a person settles on their back as a rider, he says: [Az-Zukhruf 43:13] 'Musrin' means 'capable' or 'able to manage,' because a person's companion is one who is of his like and kind. So the meaning of 'musrin' is 'capable,' meaning we are not capable of managing them unless Allah (Mighty and Majestic) made them submissive for us. He made them submissive to His servants. From them, people ride, and from them they eat what is ridden and carried, and they benefit from them. And from them, what is eaten, which people consume and benefit from. Also, they have benefits and drinks from them. They make houses from their skins, and furniture and goods from their wool, hair, and fleece, for a time, and other than that, from the great signs carried by these camels.
[Al-Ghashiyah 88:17-18] This great sky, Allah (Mighty and Majestic) raised it with a great, magnificent raising that no one from the creation can reach, even the jinn in their strength. They say: [Al-Jinn 72:9] And Allah the Exalted says: [Al-Anbya 21:32] These great skies, how did Allah the Exalted raise them without pillars? [Ar-Ra'd 13:2] Meaning, you see them thus raised without pillars, so take heed in them.
In these skies, there are many signs of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). They were raised with this great raising, and between them and the earth are great signs of the celestial bodies, stars, the sun, the moon, the winds, the clouds, and other than that, from the signs of Allah.
He said:[Al-Ghashiyah 88:18-19] These great, massive mountains. If the entire creation gathered with all their strength, they could not create anything like them. Now, you see the large equipment, cranes, and carriers, and others. If they want to fill in something, they fill it in, but they do not fill in anything but a simple thing with great difficulty. These massive mountains, we must reflect upon how Allah (Mighty and Majestic) set them up. He set them up with a great wisdom, because Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) placed in these mountains that He set up great, large benefits.
Among them, they are pegs that stabilize the earth, holding it from shaking, as Allah the Exalted said:[An-Nahl 16:15] Meaning, that it shakes. If not that Allah had stabilized it with these mountains, it would have been shaking like a ship on the surface of the water in severe waves. But Allah made it with these mountains stationary and firm, not shaking or swaying with its inhabitants.
These mountains also protect from severe, stormy winds in some places.
They also protect from great cold coming from the direction of the pole, and they also protect from severe heat.
And also, on their slopes, there are signs of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in the plants, valleys, and minerals, a great and abundant amount. For this reason, He said:[Al-Ghashiyah 88:19]
He said:[Al-Ghashiyah 88:20] At the earth, how it was spread out. Allah made it a surface and made it submissive for the servants. He made it a submissive, tamed surface such that its soil was not too soft for people to settle on, nor too hard for them to benefit from it. Rather, He made it (Glorified and Exalted is He) soft, flat, and spread out so that people would benefit from what Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) made easy for them of useful causes on its surface. And this flat earth is also spherical, meaning it is like a sphere, round from every side, except that it is flattened from the northern and southern directions, from the north and south poles. Therefore, if a person from among people boarded a plane heading toward the west on a straight line, he would come out to the place from which the plane took off. And this indicates that it is round, because the person reaches one end of it with the other end.
And indicating this is the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Inshiqaq 84:1-4] And this will be on the Day of Resurrection. So His saying: [Al-Inshiqaq 84:3] indicates that it is not currently extended, but it is flat, meaning it is like a surface, because of the largeness of its mass, the curvature that is in the sphere is not apparent in it. So these four things: [Al-Ghashiyah 88:17-20] Allah (Mighty and Majestic) urges us to look at them with the eye of sight and the eye of insight. The eye of sight is sensory perception, and the eye of insight is intellectual perception, so that we may use them as evidence for what they indicate of the signs of Allah, of knowledge, power, wisdom, mercy, and other than that. And success is from Allah.
