Reading the statement of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he transmitted: "

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: The author (may Allah have mercy on him) quoted: “From Abu Mas'ud 'Uqbah ibn 'Amr al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: When the verse of charity was revealed, we used to carry loads on our backs for hire, and a man came”

The Shaykh : ...
The reciter: Nahamil

The Shaykh : We used to, we used to
The reciter: “When the verse of charity was revealed, we used to carry loads on our backs for hire. A man came and gave a large amount in charity, so they said, 'He is showing off.' Another man came and gave a sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg) in charity, so they said, 'Allah is surely rich beyond the need of this sa'.' Then it was revealed:
Those who criticize the contributors among the believers concerning [their] charities and [criticize] the ones who find nothing [to spend] except their effort الذين يلمزون المطوعين من المؤمنين في الصدقات والذين لا يجدون إلا جهدهم
[At-Tawbah 9:79]
It is agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. And 'nahamil' is with a dammah on the nun and a hah with a hamsah, meaning that one of us would carry a load on his back for a wage and give that wage in charity”
