Explanation of the words of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he quoted: "

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said in the chapter on the abundance of ways of doing good, in what he quoted from Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), that
I asked the Prophet, "What is the best deed?" He replied, "To believe in Allah and to fight for His Cause."
Sahih al-Bukhari 2518
and the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) would ask the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about the best deeds so that they would perform them, and they were not like those who came after them, for those who came after them might ask about the best deeds but not perform them, whereas the Companions would perform them. So this is Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him)
I asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): "Which action is dearest to Allah?" He (ﷺ) replied, "Performing As-Salat (the prayer) at its earliest fixed time." I asked, "What is next (in goodness)?" He (ﷺ) said, "Kindness towards parents." I asked, "What is next (in goodness)?" He (ﷺ) said, "To participate in Jihad in the Cause of Allah."
Riyad as-Salihin 1286

And this is also Abu Dharr asking the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about the best deeds, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) explained to him that the best deeds are
To believe in Allah and to fight for His Cause
Sahih al-Bukhari 2518

Then he asked him about slaves
Which slaves are the best?
, and by slaves are meant the enslaved people, meaning which is the best in freeing slaves
He said: ‘The one who is most precious to his master and most valuable in price.'
Sunan Ibn Majah 2523Sahih (Darussalam)
And such a thing is not given up except by a person who has strength in faith. An example of this is a man who has slaves, one of whom he loves because he is diligent in his work and because he is of a light disposition and useful to his master, and he is also the most expensive of the slaves in price, the highest in price. If asked which is better to free, this one or one after him or one below him, we say: free this one, because this is the most precious of the slaves to him and the most expensive in price. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding slaves
The most expensive and the most valuable to his master.
Muwatta Malik 38:16
, and this is like His saying, the Exalted:
Never will you attain the good [reward] until you spend [in the way of Allah] from that which you love
[Ali 'Imran 3:92]

“Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to give in charity whatever he liked from his wealth, following this verse”
And Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) came when this verse was revealed: “You will not attain righteousness until you spend from what you love.” He came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: Indeed, Allah has revealed His saying: “You will not attain righteousness until you spend from what you love.” And the most beloved of my wealth to me is Bayrha'. and Bayrha' was a clean garden near the mosque, the mosque of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to come to it and drink from the water in it, which was sweet and pure. And this would be very valuable to its owner. So Abu Talhah said:
And the most beloved of my wealth to me is Bayrha', and I make it a charity for Allah and His Messenger. So place it, O Messenger of Allah, where You wish. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Bakh, bakh” (excellent, excellent).
, meaning he was expressing wonder,
A profitable asset, a profitable asset.
Then he said: I think you should make it for the close relatives. So Abu Talhah distributed it among his relatives.

The point is that the Companions would rush to do good. Then Abu Dharr asked him, if he did not find, meaning a slave with this description, the most precious to its owner and the most expensive in price, he said:
doing good, or helping a clumsy person
, meaning that you do a good deed for a person or help an incompetent person, one who does not know, you assist and help him. This is also a charity from the righteous deeds.
I said, "If I cannot do that?"
Sahih al-Bukhari 2518
Or he said:
or he said, "You keep your harm away from people, and that is charity" شرك عن الناس فذلك صدقة
, and this is the least of what is required, that a person keeps his evil away from others so that the people are safe from him. And success is from Allah.
