Continuation of the explanation of the hadith of Jabir ibn 'Abd Allah (may Allah be pleased with them both): (… Which of the slaves is the best? He said: The one with the highest price and the most precious to his family …)

The Shaykh: So our last lesson was in explaining his saying (peace and blessings be upon him) in the hadith of Abu Dharr:
To believe in Allah and to fight for His Cause
Sahih al-Bukhari 2518
And it remains for us to explain the following paragraphs of this authentic hadith, but we must re-read the hadith from the beginning, so the author said with his chain of narration: From Abu Dharr: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked: Which of the deeds is the best? He said:
To believe in Allah and to fight for His Cause
Sahih al-Bukhari 2518
. It was said: So which of the slaves is the best? He said:
The most expensive and the most valuable to his master.
Muwatta Malik 38:16
. He said: What do you think if I am not able to do some of the work? He said:
Help someone in trouble or work for someone who does not work.
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 220
. He said: What do you think if I am weak? He said:
Spare people your evil. That is a sadaqa which you bestow on yourself.
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 14:47
.
His saying (peace and blessings be upon him) in response to the questioner's question, "Which of the slaves is the best?" He said:
The most expensive and the most valuable to his master.
Muwatta Malik 38:16
This answer is actually as if it is quoted and derived from His saying (Blessed and Exalted is He):
Never will you attain the good [reward] until you spend [in the way of Allah] from that which you love
[Ali 'Imran 3:92]
where he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The most expensive and the most valuable to his master.
Muwatta Malik 38:16
And this is a principle, and that is that the best charity is that which a person's soul and heart are attached to. Therefore, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said in response to a question about the best of slaves:
The most expensive and the most valuable to his master.
Muwatta Malik 38:16
And this is the completion of righteousness, as the previous verse indicated when He (the Exalted) said:
Never will you attain the good [reward] until you spend [in the way of Allah] from that which you love
[Ali 'Imran 3:92]
; meaning: You will not attain complete righteousness. This is the meaning of the verse. Otherwise, every expense that its owner spends, he has the reward appropriate to it. So if a person spends something that is disliked to him, but it has an impact on the heart of the one receiving the charity, he has the reward for that. But the complete and fullest reward is for a person to give in charity what he loves and what his soul is attached to; this charity is the best. Likewise, if a person, when the Muslims were not as they are today, when the Muslims were striving in the path of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and captives were obtained by them through lawful Islamic warfare, and the Muslims enslave their sons and daughters and women from the slaves and use them to serve themselves and their wives and children, if the master feels their need for this slave, the best for him is to free the one whose need is attached to him. This is the meaning of the Messenger's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying in response to the question.
