The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) stated, in what he quoted from Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Mishkat al-Masabih 4200 The author (may Allah have mercy on him) explained that *al-aklah* (a meal) is the morning meal or the evening meal, meaning lunch or dinner. In this is evidence that the pleasure of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) can be attained through the most minor cause; it can be attained through this slight cause, praise be to Allah. When a person finishes eating, he says: “Praise be to Allah,” and when he finishes drinking, he says: “Praise be to Allah.” This is because eating and drinking have etiquettes, both practical and verbal. As for the practical etiquettes, one should eat with the right hand and drink with the right hand, and it is not permissible for him to eat with the left hand or drink with the left hand, for this is forbidden according to the stronger opinion. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) [a man] was punished, may Allah protect us from that. As for the verbal etiquettes, one should mention the name of Allah when eating, saying “Bismillah” (In the name of Allah). The correct view is that mentioning the name of Allah when eating or drinking is obligatory, and that a person sins if he does not mention the name of Allah when eating or drinking. This is because if he does not do so, meaning if he does not mention the name of Allah when eating or drinking, then Shaytan eats with him and drinks with him. For this reason, it is obligatory for a person, when he intends to eat, to mention the name of Allah.
