The Shaykh : We have previously discussed the first verse, and clarified that it is necessary for the one who calls to Allah to have knowledge, knowledge of what he is calling to, and that it is not permissible to call out of ignorance, because he may call to falsehood thinking it is truth, or forbid truth thinking it is falsehood. We also clarified that it is necessary for a person to have knowledge of the state of the one he is calling, because the one being called is in one of several states: he may be ignorant, or stubborn and arrogant, or he may be receptive to the truth but it has been hidden from him through his own effort and interpretation. So for every person, there is what is appropriate for him. Then the author mentioned the words of Allah the Exalted: [An-Nahl 16:125] The path of Allah is His religion and His Shari'ah which Allah legislated for His servants, and He attributed it to Himself for two reasons: the first reason is that He is the One who established it (Mighty and Majestic) for the servants and guided them to it, and the second is that it leads to Him, so nothing leads to Allah except the path of Allah which He legislated for His servants on the tongues of His messengers (peace and blessings be upon them). And His saying: The scholars said that wisdom is from *iḥkām* (precision), which is perfection, and the perfection of a thing is for a person to place it in its proper place, so it is placing things in their proper places. As for the admonition, it is the reminder accompanied by encouragement or warning. So if a person has some turning away, he is admonished and advised; if that does not benefit him, he says: [An-Nahl 16:125] In the best manner also in terms of style and persuasion, and mentioning the evidence by which he can be convinced, because some people are more convinced by the scriptural evidence than by the rational evidence, and this is the one who has strong faith; he is more convinced by the scriptural evidence than by the rational evidence. And some people are the opposite; they are not convinced by the scriptural evidence unless it is established for them by the rational evidence, so you find he relies on the rational evidence more than he relies on the scriptural evidence, and indeed he is not convinced by the scriptural evidence except where the rational evidence supports it for him. This type of person is to be feared for deviation, and I seek refuge in Allah. If he does not accept the truth except what his corrupt mind understands, then there is danger for him. For this reason, the strongest people in faith are the greatest in submission to the Shari'ah, to the Book and the Sunnah. So if you see in yourself submission to the Book and the Sunnah, and acceptance and obedience, then this is a good omen. And if you see in yourself anxiety about the rulings of the Shari'ah except where they are supported for you by the rational evidence, then know that there is a disease in your heart, due to the saying of Allah the Exalted: [Al-Ahzab 33:36] meaning it is not possible for them to choose anything other than what Allah and His Messenger have decreed. [Al-Ahzab 33:36] And His saying: [An-Nahl 16:125] It came in the verse of al-'Ankabut: [Al-'Ankabut 29:46] So with these, do not be soft if they are wrongdoers; fight them with the sword until they pay the jizyah from their own hand while they are humbled. And thus the ranks are four: wisdom, admonition, arguing in the best manner, and fighting with swords for the one who is a wrongdoer. And Allah grants success.
