The reciter: He said -may Allah have mercy on him-: "The chapter on the prohibition of stinginess and miserliness:
Allah the Exalted said:
(8) But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need (9) And denies the best [reward], (10) We will ease him toward difficulty. (11) And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? وأما من بخل واستغنى، وكذب بالحسنى فسنيسره للعسرى * وما يغني عنه ماله إذا تردى
[Al-Layl 92:8-11]

And He the Exalted said:
And whoever is protected from the stinginess of his soul - it is those who will be the successful. ومن يوق شُح نفسه فأولئك هم المفلحون
[Al-Hashr 59:9]
.
And as for the hadiths, from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Be on your guard against committing oppression, for oppression is a darkness on the Day of Resurrection, and be on your guard against stinginess for stinginess destroyed those who were before you, as it incited them to shed blood and make lawful what was unlawful for them. اتقوا الظلم، فإن الظلم ظلمات يوم القيامة ، واتقوا الشح ، فإن الشح أهلك من كان قبلكم، حملهم على أن سفكوا دماءهم واستحلوا محارمهم
Sahih Muslim 2578
