The questioner : The questioner asks about the meaning of the hadith, which in its general sense is narrated from Jabir ibn 'Abdullah that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said
Be on your guard against committing oppression, for oppression is a darkness on the Day of Resurrection, and be on your guard against stinginess for stinginess destroyed those who were before you اتقوا الظلم، فإن الظلم ظلمات يوم القيامة، واتقوا الشح، فإن الشح أهلك من كان قبلكم
Sahih Muslim 2578
to the end of the hadith?

The Shaykh : The meaning of this hadith is that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) warns against oppression, which is encroaching upon someone, whether that encroachment is upon the right of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) or upon the rights of His servants. Encroaching upon the right of Allah is like shirk (associating partners with Allah). Allah the Exalted said:
Indeed, association [with him] is great injustice." إِنَّ الشِّرْكَ لَظُلْمٌ عَظِيمٌ
[Luqman 31:13]
And likewise, other major sins; and what is less than that is oppression to the extent of its severity. As for encroaching upon the rights of creation, there is much of it, such as encroaching upon a Muslim's honor, wealth, or blood. Oppression will be darkness on the Day of Resurrection, for there is no light on the Day of Resurrection except for the believers.
On the Day you see the believing men and believing women, their light proceeding before them and on their right يَوْمَ تَرَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ يَسْعَى نُورُهُمْ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَبِأَيْمَانِهِمْ
[Al-Hadid 57:12]
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also warned against stinginess. Stinginess is miserliness combined with greed, so a person becomes miserly in giving what is obligatory upon him while being greedy for what is not his. This is a cause of destruction, for if a person is miserly, he withholds what is obligatory upon him regarding the rights of Allah and the rights of His servants. And if he is greedy and eager to acquire wealth, he encroaches upon others by taking their wealth without right.

The questioner : This is a message that reached the program from a listener who used the initials Y W S M from Daraa, Syria, the confused one. He says in his message: Your Eminence, the Shaykh.
