The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) stated, in what he quoted from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: meaning in this world and that is on the Day of Resurrection. For in this world, a person can seek forgiveness for the injustices upon him by returning them to their owners or by seeking their pardon. But in the Hereafter, there is nothing except good deeds. So on the Day of Resurrection, retribution is taken from the oppressor for the oppressed by taking from his good deeds, which are the principal of his wealth on that day. If anything remains, that is fine; otherwise, the sins of the oppressed are taken and placed upon the oppressor, refuge is sought in Allah, so he adds sins to his sins. The apparent meaning of this hadith is that it is obligatory for a person to seek forgiveness for the injustice he committed against his brother, even regarding his honor, whether the brother knew about it or not. This is because injustices are either regarding the self, wealth, or honor, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Riyad as-Salihin 1524 If it is regarding the self, such as if he committed a crime against him and beat him until he injured him, or cut off one of his limbs, or killed someone, then he seeks forgiveness by allowing the owner of the right to take retribution, or to accept blood money if retribution is not possible or if blood money is chosen. As for wealth, he must give him his money if he has money belonging to someone. It is obligatory to give it to its owner. If the owner is absent and he does not know him and has lost hope of finding him, he gives it in charity on his behalf. Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, knows, and the owner of the right will receive his right. If the owner of the right has died, he must deliver it to his heirs, because wealth transfers to the heirs after death. So he must hand it over to the heirs. If he does not know them and does not know where they are, he gives it in charity on their behalf. Allah, the Exalted, knows them and will give them their right. As for honor, such as if he has insulted a person in gatherings or backbiting about him, he must seek forgiveness from him. If he knows that he insulted him, he goes to him and says: "I did such and such, and I am coming to you to apologize." If he forgives him, that is a blessing from Allah upon all of them, because Allah says: [Ash-Shuraa 42:40] And if he does not forgive, let him give him money to satisfy him with wealth until he forgives him. If he refuses, then Allah, the Exalted, if He knows that the oppressor's repentance is genuine, He, Glorified and Exalted is He, will satisfy the oppressed on the Day of Resurrection. Some scholars said regarding the issue of honor: if the oppressed did not know, there is no need to inform him. For example, if he insulted him in one of the gatherings or backbiting about him, there is no need to inform him. But he seeks forgiveness for him, prays for him, and speaks well of him in the gatherings where he used to insult him. By doing so, he seeks forgiveness from him. The important thing is that the matter is serious and that the rights of people must be given to them, either in this world or in the Hereafter. And Allah grants success.
