Continuation of the explanation of the statement of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he quoted: "."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
We have previously discussed the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Indeed, those who like that immorality should be spread [or publicized] among those who have believed will have a painful punishment in this world and the Hereafter. And Allah knows and you do not know.
[An-Nur 24:19]
, and we clarified that this painful punishment is for whoever loves that immorality should spread among those who have believed. We mentioned that this is divided into two types: general and specific.
If this warning is for the one who loves that immorality should spread among the believers, how much more so for the one who actually spread immorality among the believers?!
We clarified that among the spreading of immorality or the love of its spreading are these obscene newspapers and magazines that publish vice and corruption. And it is obligatory, and we say now: it is obligatory for every person of intellect and religion to beware of these newspapers, to avoid them, and not to keep them in the house because of the corruption they contain, the corruption of morals, which is followed by the corruption of religion, for when morals are corrupted, religions are corrupted. We ask Allah for safety.
We referred to the fact that this noble verse was revealed regarding the story of the slander (al-Ifk), which the hypocrites fabricated against the daughter of the Siddiq, the Siddiqah, the daughter of the Siddiq, Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). We clarified that the hypocrites spread this not out of hatred for Aisha, but out of hatred for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and enmity toward him, and a desire to defile his bed. May Allah kill them, for they are turned away. But Allah revealed ten verses of the Qur'an regarding this story, beginning with:
Indeed, those who came with falsehood are a group among you. Do not think it bad for you; rather it is good for you. For every person among them is what [punishment] he has earned from the sin, and he who took upon himself the greater portion thereof - for him is a great punishment.
[An-Nur 24:11]
. And the one who took upon himself the greatest part of it is the head of the hypocrites, Abdullah ibn Abi al-Huqayq, the hypocrite, for he was the one who was spreading the news.
But he is vile and does not spread it with explicit words, saying for example: "So-and-so committed zina with so-and-so." Rather, he spreads it by saying: "It is said," "It is mentioned," "They say," and the like, because the hypocrites conceal themselves; they are cowards who do not state openly what is in their hearts. So Allah the Mighty and Majestic said:
(11) Indeed, those who came with falsehood are a group among you. Do not think it bad for you; rather it is good for you. For every person among them is what [punishment] he has earned from the sin, and he who took upon himself the greater portion thereof - for him is a great punishment. (12) Why, when you heard it, did not the believing men and believing women think good of one another and say, "This is an obvious falsehood"?
[An-Nur 24:11-12]
, meaning Allah the Exalted rebukes them, those who spoke about this matter. He says:
Why, when you heard it, did not the believing men and believing women think good of one another
[An-Nur 24:12]
, and that is because the mother of the believers is their mother, so how can they think of her what is not fitting for her (may Allah be pleased with her)?! And it was obligatory for them, when they heard this news, to think well of themselves and to disavow it and the one who said it.
Why did they [who slandered] not produce for it four witnesses? And when they do not produce the witnesses, then it is they, in the sight of Allah, who are the liars.
[An-Nur 24:13]
: Meaning, why did they not come with four witnesses testifying to this matter?
And when they do not produce the witnesses, then it is they, in the sight of Allah, who are the liars.
[An-Nur 24:13]
: And if they had been truthful. For this reason, if a person sees someone committing zina and comes to the judge and says, "I testify that so-and-so committed zina," we say: "Bring four witnesses." If he does not bring four witnesses, we flog him eighty lashes. If he brings a second man with him, we flog each of them eighty lashes. And a third, we flog each of them eighty lashes.
Meaning, if three people come to us testifying that they saw so-and-so committing zina with so-and-so, and it is not established, then we flog each of them eighty lashes. For this reason, it is said:
(13) Why did they [who slandered] not produce for it four witnesses? And when they do not produce the witnesses, then it is they, in the sight of Allah, who are the liars. (14) And if it had not been for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy in this world and the Hereafter, you would have been touched for that [lie] in which you were involved by a great punishment
[An-Nur 24:13-14]
,
"Had it not been for the grace and mercy of Allah, you would have been afflicted in what you exaggerated." And in His saying:
For what you were spreading.
, there is proof that the talk spread and overflowed and became widespread, because it was a great, serious, and weighty matter. The custom is that great matters spread quickly and fill the houses, filling mouths and ears.
(14) And if it had not been for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy in this world and the Hereafter, you would have been touched for that [lie] in which you were involved by a great punishment (15) When you received it with your tongues and said with your mouths that of which you had no knowledge and thought it was insignificant while it was, in the sight of Allah, tremendous.
[An-Nur 24:14-15]
.
When you were receiving it with your tongues.
: Without deliberation, without proof, and without certainty.
and said with your mouths that of which you had no knowledge and thought it was insignificant while it was, in the sight of Allah, tremendous.
[An-Nur 24:15]
: It is great in the sight of Allah. Why? Because it is an accusation of zina against the purest woman on the face of the earth, she and her companions, the wives of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). So the matter is difficult and great.
And in it is also its greatness in that it involves defiling the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). Allah the Exalted said:
Evil words are for evil men, and evil men are [subjected] to evil words. And good words are for good men, and good men are [an object] of good words
[An-Nur 24:26]
: So if this happens from Aisha, the mother of the believers, the wife of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and God forbid it from her, then that indicates the vileness of her husband, refuge with Allah, for the vile women are for the vile men. But she (may Allah be pleased with her) is good and her husband is good. Her husband is Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), and she is the Siddiqah, the daughter of the Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with her and her father).
And here Allah the Exalted says:
and thought it was insignificant while it was, in the sight of Allah, tremendous.
[An-Nur 24:15]
,
And why, when you heard it
[An-Nur 24:16]
meaning: Why, when you heard it, did you not
did you not say, "It is not for us to speak of this. Exalted are You, [O Allah]; this is a great slander"?
[An-Nur 24:16]
? This is what is obligatory upon you: to exonerate Allah from such a thing happening. For this reason, He said:
Glory be to You!
,
And why, when you heard it, did you not say, "It is not for us to speak of this. Exalted are You, [O Allah]; this is a great slander"?
[An-Nur 24:16]
:
And reflect on how this word came, which includes exonerating Allah the Exalted, for it is not fitting for the wisdom, mercy, grace, and kindness of Allah that such a thing should happen from the wife of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
this is a great slander"? (17) Allah warns you against returning to the likes of this [conduct], ever, if you should be believers.
[An-Nur 24:16-17]
meaning: Do not return to such a thing ever if you are believers.
And Allah makes clear to you the verses, and Allah is Knowing and Wise.
[An-Nur 24:18]
, and praise be to Allah for His clarification. For this reason, the scholars agreed that whoever accuses the mother of the believers, Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), with what came in the story of the slander is a disbeliever, an apostate, a disbeliever, like the one who prostrates to an idol. If he repents and denies himself, otherwise he is killed as a disbeliever, because he lied about the Qur'an. And the correct view is that whoever accuses any of the wives of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) with such a thing is a disbeliever, because he diminishes the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). Whoever accuses any of the wives of the Messenger with what Allah exonerated Aisha from, he becomes a disbeliever, an apostate. He must be asked to repent; if he repents, otherwise he is killed with the sword, and his corpse is thrown into a pit in the ground, without washing, without shrouding, and without prayer, because the matter is serious.
Then Allah the Exalted said:
(19) Indeed, those who like that immorality should be spread [or publicized] among those who have believed will have a painful punishment in this world and the Hereafter. And Allah knows and you do not know. (20) And if it had not been for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy... and because Allah is Kind and Merciful.
[An-Nur 24:19-20]
:
It was mentioned in yesterday's lesson that three of the Companions were involved in this: Hassan ibn Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him), Mistah ibn Uthathah, who is the son of Aisha's maternal uncle, and the third: Wahmanah bint Jahsh, the sister of Zaynab bint Jahsh, and Zaynab bint Jahsh was the wife of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and Aisha's co-wife. And yet Allah protected her, but her sister was involved. When Allah revealed her exoneration, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that these three be given the hadd punishment for false accusation of zina, so they were flogged eighty lashes each, all three: Mistah, Hassan, and Wahmanah. As for the hypocrites, the hadd was not carried out against them. The scholars differed on why?
It was said: Because the hypocrites do not state it explicitly, but rather they say: "It is said," "It is mentioned," "We heard," and the like.
It was said: Because the hypocrite is not worthy of purification. The hadd is a purification for the one punished; it purifies him. And these hypocrites are not worthy of purification. For this reason, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did not flog them, because if he had flogged them, it would have purified them from this destructive sin. But they are not worthy of purification, because they are in the lowest depth of the Fire. So He left them and their sins, and there is no good in them. And other reasons were mentioned.
In any case, this is a great story, containing lessons. Had time not been short, we would have spoken about many things contained in these verses. So praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon his family and all his Companions. And Allah is the One who grants success.
The reader: The author (may Allah have mercy on him) quoted: "From Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The servant (who conceals) the faults of others in this world, Allah would conceal his faults on the Day of Resurrection.
