Explanation of the words of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he quoted: "

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
We have previously mentioned the noble verses cited by the author that indicate the virtue of making peace between people. Then he mentioned the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Sadaqa is due on every joint of a person, every day the sun rises.
Sahih Muslim 1009

The scholars of jurisprudence and hadith said: “The joints in every person number three hundred and sixty bones or joints, so it is obligatory for every person to give three hundred and sixty charities every day the sun rises. However, charity is not limited to money; rather, everything that brings one closer to Allah is a charity in the general sense, because the act indicates the sincerity of its doer in seeking the pleasure of Allah (Mighty and Majestic).”
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Every joint of every person has a charity due on it for every day the sun rises, then he explained this charity and said: To judge fairly between two people is a charity
: This is a charity. To judge fairly between two people means: two men dispute before you, and you judge between them with justice. And justice is: “Everything that conforms to the Shari'ah is justice, and everything that contradicts the Shari'ah is oppression and injustice.” Based on this, we say: these laws by which some people judge, which contradict the Shari'ah of Allah, are not justice; rather, they are injustice, oppression, and invalid. And whoever judges by them believing that they are like the judgment of Allah or better than it, is a disbeliever who has apostatized from the religion of Allah, because he has lied about the saying of Allah the Exalted:
But who is better than Allah in judgement for a people who are certain [in faith].
[Al-Ma'idah 5:50]
But this is not understood except by one who is certain. As for the one whose insight Allah has blinded, he does not know, and indeed his evil deeds may be made attractive to him so that he sees them as good, and I seek refuge in Allah from that.
And among justice between two people is making peace between them by reconciliation. Because the judge between two people, whether appointed by the one in authority or not, may not be able to discern the side of the truth with either party. So if he cannot discern it, there is no way for him except to make peace, so he reconciles them to the best of his ability.
It has been previously stated that there is no reconciliation with miserliness. That is, if a person wants to deal with his brother with miserliness, reconciliation is not possible. As Allah the Exalted said:
and settlement is best. And present in [human] souls is stinginess
[An-Nisa 4:128]
meaning: Allah indicates that a person should avoid stinginess in reconciliation and not demand his full right. Because if he demands his full right, the other party will demand his full right, and no reconciliation will be achieved. Rather, each of them must concede from his right.
So if the judgment between people is not by the truth, but confusion arises for the person, either regarding the evidence or regarding the state of the disputing parties, then there is nothing but striving for reconciliation between them.
He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Administering of justice between two men is also a Sadaqa. And assisting a man to ride upon his beast, or helping him load his luggage upon it, is a Sadaqa
Sahih Muslim 1009
: This is also among the charities: to help a man with his mount by lifting him onto it if he is unable to ride it himself, or by lifting his luggage onto it, helping him to carry his luggage onto the mount. This is a charity.
and removing of harmful things from the pathway is a Sadaqa
Sahih Muslim 1009
: This means if you see something that harms pedestrians and you remove it, that is a charity, whether it is a stone, glass, watermelon rind, clothes tangled together, or the like. The important thing is: remove anything that harms from the road, for by doing so you are giving charity.
And if removing harm from the road is a charity, then throwing harm onto the road is a sin. Among this are those who throw their garbage in the middle of the street, or let water run in the markets, harming people. Although letting water run has another harm, which is the depletion of water, because water is stored in the earth. Allah the Exalted said:
and sent down water from the sky and given you drink from it. And you are not its retainers.
[Al-Hijr 15:22]
: And what is stored will be exhausted. Therefore, we see that the one who lets water run and wastes it, not caring about its loss, is doing wrong to the entire Muslim community, because water is shared. So if you act wrongly in its use and exhaust it without caring, you are a wasteful person, and Allah does not love the wasteful. And you are doing wrong by threatening the Muslim community with the reduction and disappearance of its water, and this is a general harm.
The important thing is that those who throw things that harm people in the markets and paths of people are doing wrong, and those who remove them are giving charity.
Hammam b. Munabbih reported that-this is out of (those ahadith) which Abu Huraira narrated to us from Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). And he while making a mention of ahadith reported from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said this: Sadaqa is due on every joint of a person, every day the sun rises. Administering of justice between two men is also a Sadaqa. And assisting a man to ride upon his beast, or helping him load his luggage upon it, is a Sadaqa; and a good word is a Sadaqa; and every step that you take towards prayer is a Sadaqa, and removing of harmful things from the pathway is a Sadaqa.
Sahih Muslim 1009
: And this, praise be to Allah, is among the most general things. A kind word is divided into two categories: kind in itself, and kind in its objectives.
As for what is kind in itself, it is dhikr (remembrance of Allah): La ilaha illa Allah (There is no god but Allah), Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest), Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah (There is no power nor strength except with Allah). And the best of dhikr is reciting the Qur'an.
As for a kind word in its objective: it is the permissible word, speaking with people if you intend by this to make them feel at ease and bring them joy. Then this speech, even if it is not kind in itself, is kind in its objectives, in bringing joy to your brothers. And bringing joy to your brothers is among what brings you closer to Allah (Mighty and Majestic). So a kind word is a charity, and this is among the most general things.
Then he said:
every step one takes towards prayer is sadaqa
Mishkat al-Masabih 1896
Count the steps from your house to the mosque, and you will find many steps. Every single step is a charity for you. If you leave your house with complete wudu (ablution), and nothing takes you from your house to the mosque except prayer, then every step is a charity, and every step you take, Allah raises for you a degree by it and removes from you a sin by it. A great favor.
Perform your wudu completely in your house, and go out to the mosque, let nothing take you out except prayer, and be glad with three benefits:
The first: a charity.
The second: raising of a degree.
The third: removal of a sin.
From your house to the mosque, all of this is a blessing from Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And Allah is the One who grants success.
