Chapter: "Chapter on Giving Water to Drink" Completion of the explanation of the hadith of Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), which I believe is marfu' (traced to the Prophet), in which he said:

The Shaykh : It is as if he (peace and blessings be upon him), with this detail, is answering an implied question. It is as if someone is saying: If there is a charity for every joint every day, does that mean a person has to give charity every day? And as he (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned, the total number of joints is three hundred and sixty, so the meaning is that a person has three hundred and sixty charities to give every day.
So who is able to give three hundred and sixty charities every day? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) intended to make the matter easy for people, so they would not find it difficult, and so they would not say that no one can give three hundred and sixty charities every day. Therefore, he (peace and blessings be upon him) legislated mentioning types of charity by way of example, not by way of restriction.
He says, for example, (peace and blessings be upon him) in this hadith:Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 422 For example, a simple one. This encourages us to care for ourselves and others. If I see my daughter or son making a mistake and eating with his left hand, and I say to him, "My son" or "My daughter," "Eat with your right hand," this is a kind word. "Eat with your right hand" is two words, it is not heavy, it is not a long speech. So merely by saying to any person, but I am giving the example of my son or daughter, "Eat with your right hand," it is a charity that is recorded.
Imagine how many and how many charities a Muslim can collect in one day just with kind words, this apart from the other matters that he (peace and blessings be upon him) will also mention in the hadith by way of example, not restriction.
So he says, (peace and blessings be upon him):Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 422 So this hadith gives a second example: helping a man his brother is a charity. It came in some of the authentic hadiths referred to that the Messenger (peace be upon him) said: For example, a person needs to load a burden on his mount that he cannot lift alone, so a person passes by and sees his need for someone to help him, and helps him until the burden is placed on the mount, and it is immediately recorded as a charity. But here the hadith came with a broader wording: your help to your brother, in whatever way you helped him, is a charity from you for him. This is a second example.
The first example is that every kind word is a charity, and on this scale, every help you give to your brother is a charity, no matter what that help is, even if you walked a distance with him to show him a place he is asking about.
Then he said, (peace and blessings be upon him):Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 422 meaning the man specifically when the one being given water is thirsty, so you come to his aid and quench his thirst, and a charity is written for you. The hadith here says: meaning absolutely, if any person asked you for some water and you gave it to him, a charity is written for you for this drink. But without a doubt, charities vary with Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) according to their benefit and their impact on the one being given water. For example, a person who is not very thirsty but needs water, and a man gave it to him, a charity is written for him. But another person who is thirsty, a charity is written for him, but this charity is stronger and has more reward with Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He).
And finally, a third example, and the examples multiply: a person is about to die of thirst if his Muslim brother did not personally give him water to drink, so he revived him with this drink that he gave him. Without a doubt, this charity is stronger than the first and stronger than the second. And between these three types, without a doubt, there are ranks in terms of the benefit of the drink of water.
Then he said in this hadith:Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 422 removing harm, meaning removing what harms people on the road, is a charity. A piece of wood, for example, with a nail in it, a car passes by and runs over the nail, it bursts, and its owner is delayed and suffers in it as Allah wills. So if a man comes on his way and kicks it with his foot like this, moving it to the side of the sidewalk, or a banana peel, he also moves it from the road to the sidewalk, or a piece of wood that might injure a person, and the like of harmful things on the road, he removes them. All of this is written for the person as a charity.
And it came in some of the other hadiths referred to earlier, other types of examples. And therefore we said that these examples that came in this hadith are not by way of restriction and limitation, but by way of example, otherwise they are more numerous.
Therefore, he (peace be upon him) said in those hadiths: two people who are in conflict with each other, meaning any type of conflict, if you come and intervene between them and reconcile them and make peace, this intervention in making peace is written for you as a charity.
And he also said in those hadiths: and so on. Then, in answer to that implied question that I mentioned earlier, when the Messenger mentioned these examples, it was as if it was an answer to a questioner who said: three hundred and sixty charities.
The questioner: Three hundred and sixty.
The Shaykh : Three hundred and sixty charities. Who is able to perform this collection, these hundreds of charities, every day and night? So he came with these examples to make it light and easy, but he came with a final phrase that made the matter easy in its entirety. He said, (peace be upon him):As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 63:128 meaning if the Muslim prays the two rak'ahs of Duha every day, it is as if he gave three hundred and sixty charities, meaning these joints that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) bestowed upon this person. So he is obligated to thank Allah (Mighty and Majestic) for this blessing, which a person cannot fulfill the duty of thanking for. So if he prays the two rak'ahs of Duha, it is as if he gave three hundred and sixty charities.
The questioner: Meaning the two rak'ahs of Duha, for example ... .
He says, for example, (peace and blessings be upon him) in this hadith:
Every good word is sadaqa.
كل كلمة طيبة صدقةImagine how many and how many charities a Muslim can collect in one day just with kind words, this apart from the other matters that he (peace and blessings be upon him) will also mention in the hadith by way of example, not restriction.
So he says, (peace and blessings be upon him):
Every good word is sadaqa. A man's helping his brother is sadaqa
كل كلمة طيبة صدقة وعون الرجل أخاه صدقةAnd carrying a burden on your brother's mount is a charity
وحملك المتاع على دابة أخيك صدقةThe first example is that every kind word is a charity, and on this scale, every help you give to your brother is a charity, no matter what that help is, even if you walked a distance with him to show him a place he is asking about.
Then he said, (peace and blessings be upon him):
A drink of water which he gives
والشربة من الماء يسقيهاCharity
صدقةAnd a drink
والشربةAnd finally, a third example, and the examples multiply: a person is about to die of thirst if his Muslim brother did not personally give him water to drink, so he revived him with this drink that he gave him. Without a doubt, this charity is stronger than the first and stronger than the second. And between these three types, without a doubt, there are ranks in terms of the benefit of the drink of water.
Then he said in this hadith:
Removing something harmful from the road is sadaqa.
وإماطة الأذى عن الطريق صدقةAnd it came in some of the other hadiths referred to earlier, other types of examples. And therefore we said that these examples that came in this hadith are not by way of restriction and limitation, but by way of example, otherwise they are more numerous.
Therefore, he (peace be upon him) said in those hadiths:
Reconciling two people is a charity.
وإصلاح بين اثنين صدقةAnd he also said in those hadiths:
Enjoining good is a charity, forbidding evil is a charity, and in every tasbih (glorification of Allah) is a charity, in every takbir (declaration of Allah's greatness) is a charity, and in every tahmid (praise of Allah) is a charity.
وأمر بالمعروف صدقة ونهي عن المنكر صدقة وفي كل تسبيحة صدقة وفي كل تكبيرة صدقة وفي كل تحميدة صدقةThe questioner: Three hundred and sixty.
The Shaykh : Three hundred and sixty charities. Who is able to perform this collection, these hundreds of charities, every day and night? So he came with these examples to make it light and easy, but he came with a final phrase that made the matter easy in its entirety. He said, (peace be upon him):
And two rak'ahs of the Dhuha prayer suffice for all of that.
ويجزئ عن ذلك كله ركعتا الضحىThe questioner: Meaning the two rak'ahs of Duha, for example ... .
