What is the ruling on cologne? Which is a derivative of alcohol.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Does that mean there is no harm in the common cologne of these days ... ?

The Shaykh : No, it is something else; there is a detailed ruling. It is undoubtedly, according to the previous explanation, not ritually impure, but it contains alcohol without a doubt. Where did the alcohol come from? It came from pressing grapes and turning them into wine. So if we say that wine is forbidden, pure, and not ritually impure, that does not mean it is permissible for us to press it, sell it, buy it, and the like ... After this, we say that the cologne found in the markets all contains alcohol, but the proportion varies. If the proportion of alcohol in the cologne is high such that it makes the cologne an intoxicating wine, then there is no difference at that time between buying wine and buying cologne, because it is wine. But if the proportion of alcohol in the cologne is small, such that no matter how much a drinker of wine imagines he drank of it, he is not affected and does not become intoxicated by it, then at that time it is permissible to sell and buy it, but it is not permissible to manufacture it. Is that clear?

The questioner : Yes, yes, it is clear.
