Explanation of the words of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he quoted: "

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "The chapter on the signs of the love of Allah, Mighty and Majestic": This means the sign that Allah the Exalted loves the servant, because everything has a sign, and the love of Allah for the servant has a sign, among which is:
That a person follows the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), for the more a person follows the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), the more obedient he is to Allah, and the more beloved he is to Allah the Exalted.
And the author (may Allah have mercy on him) cited as evidence for this the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Say, [O Muhammad], "If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you قُلْ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللَّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِي يُحْبِبْكُمُ اللَّهُ
[Ali 'Imran 3:31]

And this verse is called by the Salaf: "The Verse of the Test", by which one who claims the love of Allah is tested, so it is looked at: if he follows the Messenger (may the prayer and peace of Allah be upon him), then this is proof of the truth of his claim.
And if you love Allah, Allah the Mighty and Majestic loves you, and for this he said:
then follow me, [so] Allah will love you
[Ali 'Imran 3:31]
: And this is a great fruit, that Allah the Exalted loves you, because when Allah loves you, you thereby attain happiness in this world and the Hereafter.
Then the author mentioned the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
I will declare war against him who shows hostility to a pious worshipper of Mine
Sahih al-Bukhari 6502
: "Whoever opposes my wali": meaning he becomes an enemy to a wali from among my awliya, then I declare war upon him, he becomes a warrior against Allah, the one who is an enemy to any of the awliya of Allah is a warrior against Allah -and I seek refuge in Allah- like consuming riba
And if you do not, then be informed of a war [against you] from Allah and His Messenger
[Al-Baqarah 2:279]
.
But who is the wali of Allah? The wali of Allah, Exalted and Exalted, is explained by Allah in His saying:
(62) Unquestionably, [for] the allies of Allah there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve (63) Those who believed and were fearing Allah
[Yunus 10:62-63]
,
These are the awliya of Allah, so whoever is a believer and pious, he is a wali of Allah, this is the wilayah, and the wilayah is not that a person roughens his clothing, or that he acts like a monk before people, or that he lengthens his sleeve, or that he lowers his head, no, the wilayah is faith and piety:
Those who believed and were fearing Allah
[Yunus 10:63]
, so whoever opposes these is a warrior against Allah, and I seek refuge in Allah, a warrior.
Then Allah the Mighty and Majestic said in the Qudsi hadith:
And the most beloved things with which My slave comes nearer to Me, is what I have enjoined upon him
Sahih al-Bukhari 6502
: This means the most beloved thing to Allah are the obligatory acts, so the Zuhr prayer is more beloved to Allah than the rawatib of Zuhr, and the Maghrib prayer is more beloved to Allah than the rawatib of Maghrib, and the 'Isha' prayer is more beloved to Allah than the rawatib of 'Isha', and the Fajr prayer is more beloved to Allah than the rawatib of Fajr, and the obligatory prayers are more beloved to Allah than standing in night prayer, all the obligatory acts are more beloved to Allah than the voluntary acts, and zakah is more beloved to Allah than voluntary charity, and the obligatory Hajj is more beloved to Allah than the voluntary Hajj, everything that is more obligatory is more beloved to Allah the Mighty and Majestic.
My servant does not draw near to Me with anything more beloved to Me than what I have made obligatory for him, and my servant continues to draw near to Me with voluntary acts of worship until I love him.
: And in this is an indication that one of the causes of the love of Allah is that you increase in the voluntary acts, the voluntary: voluntary prayers, voluntary charity, voluntary fasting, voluntary Hajj, and other voluntary acts.
So the servant continues to draw near to Allah with the voluntary acts until Allah loves him,
so I become his sense of hearing with which he hears, and his sense of sight with which he sees, and his hand with which he grips, and his leg with which he walks; and if he asks Me, I will give him, and if he asks My protection (Refuge), I will protect him
Sahih al-Bukhari 6502
.
He becomes the hearing with which he hears
: This means that I make his hearing correct, so he does not hear except what pleases Allah,
The sight with which he sees
: I make his sight correct so he does not see except what Allah loves,
his hand with which he grips
Sahih al-Bukhari 6502
: So he does not work with his hand except what pleases Allah,
and his leg with which he walks
Sahih al-Bukhari 6502
: So he does not walk with his foot except for what pleases Allah the Mighty and Majestic, so he is made correct in his words and his actions.
And if he asks Me, I will give to him
: This is one of the fruits of the voluntary acts and the love of Allah the Mighty and Majestic, that if he asks Allah, He gives him,
And if he seeks My protection
: This means he seeks refuge in me from what he fears of His evil,
I will protect him لأعيذنه
, so this is one of the signs of the love of Allah, that a person is made correct in his words and actions, so if he is made correct, that indicates that Allah loves him,
(70) O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice. (71) He will [then] amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins.
[Al-Ahzab 33:70-71]
.
And he also mentioned other hadiths in explaining the love of Allah the Mighty and Majestic, and that Allah, Exalted and Exalted, when He loves a person, He calls Jibril, Jibril is the most noble of the angels, just as Muhammad is the most noble of humans,
He calls Gabriel saying, 'Allah loves so and-so; O Gabriel! Love him.' Gabriel would love him and make an announcement amongst the inhabitants of the Heaven. 'Allah loves so-and-so, therefore you should love him also,' and so all the inhabitants of the Heaven would love him, and then he is granted the pleasure of the people on the earth.
Sahih al-Bukhari 3209
so the people of the earth love him.
And if Allah hates someone, and I seek refuge in Allah:
He calls Gabriel and says: I am angry with such and such and you also become angry with him, and then Gabriel also becomes angry and then makes an announcement amongst the inhabitants of heaven: Verily Allah is angry with so-and so, so you also become angry with him, and thus they also become angry with him. Then he becomes the object of wrath on the earth also.
Sahih Muslim 2637a
, and I seek refuge in Allah, so the people of the earth hate him, and this is also one of the signs of the love of Allah, that acceptance is placed for a person in the earth, meaning he is accepted by people, beloved to them, so this is one of the signs of the love of Allah, Exalted and Exalted, for the servant.
We ask Allah to make us and you among His loved ones and His awliya.
