Continuation of the explanation of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “... and let them not be like those who were given the Scripture before, so long a time passed for them that their hearts became hard...”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The important point is that Allah has forbidden us to be like those who were given the Scripture before, whose hearts became hard. However, many of us in the present time have become imitators of those whose hearts have become hard, and many of them have also committed open sinfulness against the command of Allah and departed from the obedience of Allah. Then the author said: “And the verses in this meaning are numerous and well known”. As for the hadiths, among them is the hadith of Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him and his father), who said:
came to his seat
Sunan Abi Dawud 541Sahih (Al-Albani)
. This means he held him by the shoulder, and the shoulder is the upper part of the shoulder blade. He took him by it so that Ibn Umar would pay attention to what the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) would convey to him. This is part of the excellence of the teaching of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), for he (peace and blessings be upon him), when he spoke, would take the measures that cause the addressee to pay attention, either by action, as here, or by speech, as in his saying:
Shall I inform you of the biggest of the great sins?" They said, "Yes, O Allah's Apostle!
Sahih al-Bukhari 6273
. This is conveyed to them so that they would pay attention.
took hold of my shoulder and said, 'Be in this world as if you were a stranger or a traveler.
Sahih al-Bukhari 6416
: Glory be to Allah! Allah has given His Prophet the summaries of speech. These two words can be a lamp by which a person proceeds in his life.
Be in this world as if you were a stranger or a traveler.
Sahih al-Bukhari 6416
: The difference between them is that a passerby is walking, passing through the village while walking out of it, whereas a stranger is one who resides in it until he departs from it; he resides in it for two or three days, or ten days, or a month. Neither the passerby nor the stranger has taken the village in which he is as a homeland, a dwelling, or a place of settlement. So the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Be in this world like this man, either a stranger or a passerby. The stranger and the passerby do not settle permanently; they want to go to their families, to their land. If a person treated himself in this world with this treatment, he would always be girded for the Hereafter, wanting nothing but the Hereafter, and seeing nothing before his eyes but the Hereafter, until he proceeds toward it in a manner that leads him to his goal. We ask Allah to grant us and you success in what is good and righteous.
The reader: The author (may Allah have mercy on him) transmitted: “From Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him and his father), who said:
‘Abdallah b. ‘Umar told of God’s messenger taking him by the shoulders and saying, ‘‘Be in the world as though you were a stranger or one who is passing through.” Ibn ‘Umar used to say, “In the evening do not expect to see the morning and in the morning do not expect to see the evening, but take something when in health to serve you in time of illness and something in your life to serve you in your death.” Bukhari transmitted it.
Mishkat al-Masabih 1604
. It was narrated by al-Bukhari”
