Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reader: The author (may Allah have mercy on him) quoted: " From 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him and his father), who said:
‘Abdallah b. ‘Umar told of God’s messenger taking him by the shoulders and saying, ‘‘Be in the world as though you were a stranger or one who is passing through.” Ibn ‘Umar used to say, “In the evening do not expect to see the morning and in the morning do not expect to see the evening, but take something when in health to serve you in time of illness and something in your life to serve you in your death.” Bukhari transmitted it.
Mishkat al-Masabih 1604
, Al-Bukhari narrated it.
They said in explaining this hadith: Its meaning is that you should not rely on this world, nor take it as your home, nor imagine that you will stay in it for a long time, nor be concerned with it, and you should not be attached to it except for what a stranger is attached to in a land that is not his home, and you should not occupy yourself with it with what a stranger who wants to go to his family does not occupy himself with.
And from Abu al-'Abbas, Sahl ibn Sa'd al-Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Point me to a deed that if I do it, Allah will love me and the people will love me. He said: Be ascetic in this world and Allah will love you, and be ascetic in what is with the people and the people will love you.
, a good hadith, narrated by Ibn Majah and others with good chains.
And from al-Nu'man ibn Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him and his father), who said: 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) mentioned what the people had obtained from this world, and he said:
I saw Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) spend the whole day being upset because of hunger and he could not get even an interior quality of dates with which he could fill his belly.
Sahih Muslim 2978
, Muslim narrated it.
And from 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), who said:
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) died, and there was nothing in my house that a living being could eat, except some barley Lying on a shelf. So, I ate of it for a long period and measured it, and (after a short period) it was consumed.
Sahih al-Bukhari 3097
, agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
And from 'Amr ibn al-Harith, the brother of Juwayriyyah bint al-Harith, the Mother of the Believers (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said:
he did not leave a dinar or a dirham, a slave or a slave-woman, or anything but his white she-mule, his weapons and some land which he appointed as sadaqa
Mishkat al-Masabih 5974
, Al-Bukhari narrated it "
