The Shaykh : This hadith contains several benefits. Among them is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) was renowned for mercy and gentleness. He was the most merciful of people toward people and the most gentle of people toward people (peace and blessings be upon him), merciful and gentle, to the extent that a young girl from the people of Madinah would hold his hand so he would go with her and help her relieve herself, and likewise an old woman. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) was the most merciful of people toward people and the most gentle of people toward people. Another benefit is that a person should have the feelings of others and not be selfish, such that when things go well for him, he forgets those around him. Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) was staying with his family, at ease in mind, calm in heart, and comfortable in spirit. But these young men who had come to learn the religion were driven by their innate disposition, custom, and nature to miss their families. When he saw that they missed their families, he asked them who they had left behind, and when they informed him, he ordered them to return to their families. So you should feel the feelings of others and put yourself in their place so that you treat them as you would like to be treated yourself. Another benefit is that a person should stay with his family as much as possible and should not travel away from them or distance himself from them. Indeed, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered a traveler, when he travels and finishes his business, to return to his family, because staying with one's family brings much good, including familiarity, affection, love, upbringing, caring for their conditions, discipline, and guidance. Therefore, what a person should do is not to leave his family except out of necessity, and when his necessity ends, he should return to them. Another benefit of the hadith is that a person is commanded to teach his family. For this reason, it says: "Teach them" , meaning they teach them what they learned from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). So a person should teach his family what they need, either by setting aside a special session for them, or when they are sitting for food or drink, or while waiting to sleep, or similar occasions, he teaches them. Another benefit of the hadith is that one should not limit oneself to teaching only. It says: , meaning he teaches them and commands them. The most important thing he commands is prayer. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) explicitly mentioned it, saying: Sunan ad-Daraqutni 3:5. So it is necessary to teach the family, and it is necessary to command them, discipline them, and guide them. Among the benefits of the hadith is the obligation of the adhan and that it is a collective obligation, based on his saying: Sahih Muslim 674a. Another benefit is that the adhan is not valid before the time. If a person calls the adhan before the time, even with just one takbir from the adhan, his adhan is not valid. He must repeat it after the time for prayer enters, based on his saying: . Prayer does not arrive except when its time enters. By this, we know that the saying of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) to Bilal, "When you call the first adhan for the Fajr prayer, say: 'Prayer is better than sleep' twice", means the adhan that is after the time enters. Because he said "the first for the Fajr prayer," contrary to what some people understood, which is that it refers to the adhan that is before Fajr. Because the adhan that is before Fajr is not an adhan for the Fajr prayer. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) clarified that the adhan that is before Fajr is for waking the sleeper and returning the one who is awake, saying: . This is what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said. So he clarified in this hadith that the adhan that is at the end of the night, which people call the first adhan, is not for Fajr, it is not for prayer. Because the adhan for prayer is not except after the time enters Sahih Muslim 674a. And the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) clarified that this adhan is not for the Fajr prayer by his saying: , meaning he returns it so that you may have your pre-dawn meal and wake your sleepers so that they may have their pre-dawn meal. Among the benefits of this hadith is the obligation of congregational prayer, based on his saying: . The lam here is for command, so congregational prayer is obligatory. Among the benefits of the hadith is that congregational prayer is obligatory for travelers just as it is obligatory for residents. Because these were a delegation who would return to their families, so they were travelers, and he ordered them to pray in congregation. Accordingly, if a person is in a town and he is a traveler, he must attend the congregation in the mosques. Some of the common people, when I tell them to pray, say, "I am a traveler." Well, a traveler is not exempt from congregational prayer. You must pray with the congregation in the mosques. Even if you are staying for two or three days in the town, you must pray with the congregation. You and the people of the town are the same. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to a man: . He said: Yes. He said: . Among the benefits of this hadith is giving precedence to the elder in leading the prayer, based on his saying: . This does not contradict his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): Sunan Ibn Majah 980Sahih (Darussalam). Because these were young men who all arrived at the same time, and it appears that there was no clear difference between them in reciting the Qur'an, and that they were similar, with none of them being a better reciter than the other. For this reason, he said, "Let the eldest among you lead you," because they were equal or similar in recitation. If they are equal in recitation and the Sunnah, then the elder in age is given precedence. If they are equal in these matters—recitation, the Sunnah, and migration—then the elder is given precedence. Also among the benefits of the hadith is considering old age, and that the elder in age is given precedence over others if the others do not have a distinguishing feature that would make them superior to this elder in age. And among its benefits is that a person who guides people should guide them to every matter, even if he thinks it is known. For this reason, he said: Sunan an-Nasa'i 636Sahih (Darussalam), even though they had prayed with the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and prayed with him for twenty nights and knew that. But for the sake of reminding them, he said, "Pray, for example, the Zuhr at such-and-such time, pray the 'Asr at such-and-such time, pray the Maghrib at such-and-such time, pray the 'Isha' at such-and-such time, pray the Fajr at such-and-such time." Among the benefits of this hadith is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) taught people by word and by action. He taught the one who prayed without tranquility by word, saying: Bulugh al-Maram 2:139, and so on. As for these, he said to them: Sahih al-Bukhari 6008. And this is teaching by action. And as he (peace and blessings be upon him) did when he made the minbar and ascended it and began to pray with the people while on the minbar. He would bow while on the minbar, and when he wanted to prostrate, he would descend from the minbar while facing the qiblah, then prostrate. And he said, when he finished, "I only did this so that you may follow me and learn my prayer." Among the benefits of this hadith is that a person should, indeed it is obligatory for a person, to know how the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) used to pray. He should read from the books of knowledge written by those whose knowledge is trusted, how the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) used to pray, so that he may carry out the command of the Messenger in his saying: Sahih al-Bukhari 6008. And success is from Allah.

He said a word that I would not be pleased to have the world for. And in another narration, he said: Mishkat al-Masabih 2248."
